Create an itinerary including Gaomei Wetland
An elevated boardwalk snaking through a biodiverse landscape, Gaomei Wetland provides a protected sanctuary for wildlife and plant life. Established in 2005, the wetlands span 300 ha (741.3 ac) of land, consisting of a vast plain of marshy terrain scattered with wind turbines. Stroll the seemingly never-ending length of boardwalk, looking out for tiny crabs and birds in the surrounding watery reeds. Try to time your visit to coincide with sunset, which offers particularly spectacular views across the shimmering expanse. • Very windy so better to take off your cap or hat. However it’s indeed a beautiful place worth taking a visit. Parking is not an issue as there are many paid private locations nearby.
  • Great place to checkout sunrise or sunset! Be sure to wear windproof apparel or outerwear. If they built a larger space at the end of boardwalk area it would've been awesome.
  • It was very windy and cold. I think the sound of the wind blows my ears off. There were no cafes or restaurants nearby where I could relax comfortably. You can buy street food from small stalls, but I don't really like it. It was sunset time, so there were many student group tourists. If you visit Taichung, you should go there, but, well,,, maybe you come here because there is nothing so much to see in this city.
  • I love a good sunset but this super windy and cold sunset wasn’t worth the bus trip out to the Wetlands from Taichung. Noting because this is #1 thing to do on TripAdvisor in the area. It’s been equated to Salt flats in Bolivia. To expectation set, it’s not that. There’s a sign listing this as top destination for Japanese tourists. Recommend having lower expectations. This is overhyped. Wouldn’t make this a destination.
  • Went right at sunset and there were very few people. There’s a boardwalk to walk down with great views of the wetlands and wind turbines!
