Appreciate the convergence of tradition, religion, and art at Chih Nan Temple (Zhinan Temple). Take a cable car to get to the mesmerizing building, built in 1882 to honor one of the so-called eight immortal deities. The temple, besides being beautiful, also serves as a sort of compass, with its front facing due south. Admire the statues of the deities and the famous philosopher Confucius, as well as the painted decorations inside and the views of the rich greenery outside. Legend has it that unmarried couples break up if they visit the temple together. Put Chih Nan Temple (Zhinan Temple) and other Taipei attractions into our Taipei vacation planning site, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Best to experience riding the Maokong Gondola and alight at Zhinan Temple Station to access this temple located at the foot of Zhishan mountain in Wenshan District, Taipei. Chih Nan Temple is dedicated to the Taoist immortal Lu Tung-pin, better known as "Xiangong" or "Luzu" who loved poetry and books. The place offers wonderful nature and the view of gondolas travelling from one station to the other. A pleasant time for some self reflections when you're in this place. Would love to go back someday.
  • One of taoism temple in Taiwan recommended to visit. There are many place for worship. You can access by Maokong Gondola (stop at Zhinan Temple Station) and walk 3 mins to get there.
  • Maybe the biggest Taoism temple in north Taiwan. Can enjoy the atmosphere of local religion and traditions here. Also the Maokong gondola and mountain trail are nearby are really recommended for tourists.
  • temple with spectacular views of Taipei. the temple is dedicated to Lu Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals in Taoist mythology. there are two statues of him, one from China made of jade and another one made in Taiwan. it is interesting to see how different the statues look, despite supposedly being depictions of the same deity! visit(s): 20210905
