A European-style park dotted with memorials and museums, 228 Peace Memorial Park stands in memory to the victims of one of the most horrific massacres in Taiwan’s history. Opened in 1908, the park was renamed in 1998 as a memorial for the “228” civilian massacre on February 28, 1947 by the Kuomintang government. Stroll through the leafy paths of the park’s gardens, dotted with palms, as you make your way to the memorial pavilion, reflecting on the country’s violent past. For a more thorough history, head to the park’s memorial museum or the national Taiwan museum located at the northern entrance. A beautiful park with great access and has deeper meaning as it exist to commemorate one of Taiwan’s darkest history. Located close to many vital objects in Taipei. Must visit when you come to Taipei.

This is a beautiful park with a very unique and important history. Besides being a place of remembrance it has also been the sight, for many decades, where people come to practice and teach Taiji. When I first came to Taiwan, I used to come here every weekend morning to practice. However, recently some government/parks official decided to destroy this particular area by digging a trench in the middle of the practice area and planting grass and other things all around. It is inconceivable why they decided to do this. When I recently went there, there were fewer people practicing, I was constantly being bitten by bugs because the whole area was wet. The trench and grass are just keeping the entire area wet and are turning it into a swamp. What a terrible decision to destroy this unique area. For decades people have been coming here to practice and now this has been made nearly impossible. People from other countries have come here because of teachers and now this will no longer happen. Bravo! Whoever made this brilliant decision has truly shown everyone how inconsiderate and incompetent someone can be.

I do enjoy the experience for staying there in the midnight. I occupied the fringe tree queen alone, enjoyed the peace and beauty in the silent night till the dawn.

Lovely park in the middle of the city. Quiet in the morning with most people here sheltering from the rain or having a quiet breakfast they packed from nearby stalls

Beautiful park in Taipei urban center. A place to go and learn about the country's history. There are some museums in the area, one of them about the incident from February 28th.
