Adnan and Hasan, Istanbul

Before heading to Istanbul turkey I reviewed online many articles comments regards purchasing carpets in turkey. Frankly they all had interesting comments. But the best was "buy what you can afford and what you like ". Whilst there are many groups selling carpets there, I'm pretty sure most of them are honorable and professional business owners. However at Adnan and Hasan Mr. Erol avci and his staff will provide you with the carpet of your dreams, service, experience you will want. Easy low pressure sale, stunning array of products in all sizes and types. We came, we bought and now the product is being used in our home. We love it and this company was a pleasure to do business with.

I visited store last year and i bought pray rug. I was only interested to view other rugs (not to buy them) because they had very interesting colours and motives and they were very friendly showing me all of them. They also suggest kilims and rugs from nearby rug shop infront of them. My favourite rug from shop was made from Kashmir silk with motive of Gustave Klimt painting named The kiss.

Nearly 30 years ago, my father travelled from Canada to write a story for the Globe & Mail about how and where to buy carpets in Turkey. He met Hasan and purchased a number of rugs from him that were shipped back to our home. I grew up with these beautiful pieces throughout our home and 14 years later, he took myself and my brother to visit the country. At 13, we explored the Grand Bazaar and met Hassan where my father bought two more carpets as gifts for my brother and I when we got married. Earlier this month, Laura and I got married and decided that we would start our honeymoon in Istanbul. We once again visited Adnan and Hasan 16 years since I was last here. We purchased six carpets. One is for playroom in my brother's home where his first baby boy was born two months ago. Two are for the bedrooms of our future children and the remaining three will be throughout our home. A third generation of our family will experience these wonderful pieces and hopefully, my children and my brother's son will find their way through the Grand Bazaar and into their wonderful shop. On a more practical note - prices are fair and reflect the incredible quality of the pieces. Shipping was handled by Adnan and Hasan and arrived in Canada in about a week. Everything is in fantastic shape. The customer service is incredible.

After going through over a dozen rug shops in the Grand Bazaar and other places in Istanbul, we decided to check out Adnan and Hasan after reading the great reviews online and I am so glad that we did. Everyone in the store is super warm and patient and quote prices in Liras unlike other stores that only talk in Dollars which gives you the assurance that you aren't falling for a tourist trap. The shop might be small but it packs quite a punch with a great selection of handmade rugs and soumaks. Be sure to check it out!!

All of the staff were very pleasant & friendly here. No pressure to make a purchase and they were more than happy to help you find a rug right for you. The prices are fixed but we still bought 2 rugs,(which they also managed to fold up neatly into 2small bags, ideal if you have a carry on) the quality is really good. We had some difficulty finding the shop as Google will give wrong directions, they are actually based inside the Grand Bazar, by the Old Bazar area; 89 Halicilar Street.
