Create an itinerary including Hierapolis
Explore ancient thermal spas and take a dip yourself at Hierapolis, a World Heritage Site. Originally a thermal spa in 2nd century BCE, the Greek ruins of baths, temples, and monuments are still visible today at Hierapolis. Visit the on-site Hierapolis Archaeology Museum to see tombs, monuments, and ruined theatre artifacts. Nearby Pamukkale is a diverse arrangement of hot springs--some for swimming and some for scenic appreciation. One notable area, sometimes referred to as Cleopatra's swimming pool, features a set of tiered travertines on top of which bright aquamarine water gathers. Arrange to visit Hierapolis and other attractions in Pamukkale using our Pamukkale trip planner.

  • We visited on a group tour and had two and a half hours only, but I would recommend at least half a day if you have time! The ruins are in a very big area, including the martyrdom place of St. Philip. The thermal pools are also fun to wade through, and don't forget to rub on some of the mud sediment and then wash it off!
  • Definitely worth a visit after spending time at the pools below! Some of the features are beautifully restored! Good facilities for tourists as well with bathrooms and restaurants! Could easily spend a couple of hours walking around here.
  • Beautiful amphitheatre..its a beautiful walk up from the pools (the pools are included in the same ticket).. there is also a nice food court at the base of it which is a nice break between seeing the travertines and exploring all the historical sites.. wonderfully restored.. awestruck by how far back these date
  • The best ancient city I've ever seen. Amazing. An absolutely must. Pay the 70 lira for the audio guide, it's well worth it. Be prepared to spend an entire day here
  • I stopped here as part of a tour and was pleasantly surprised at how great this site was. Most of the site is ground ruins, so you have to use your imagination, but some columns, arches, and facades still rise. The theater is an incredible spot that shows the mountains in the background. I was only here for 3 hours but could have stayed for 5. The site is well equipped, though the washrooms are pretty spread out, and it was not too busy for a Tuesday in January. (2022)
