  • An exellent insight into what was once a ubitquitous way of producing gas. Well worth a visit if you're in Biggar. Hopefully it will be open again soon, although unlikely to be before spring 2022...

  • This was a journey into the past to learn how inventive and capable our Victorian forebears were in making use of the country's natural coal resources to produce gaslight for our homes and streets...

  • Visit on steam days as there are things going on including steam engines, with a boiler fired up and steam generated, hence steam days. Much of the original equipment is still in place and bits of it work on steam days.
  • Wonderful for all ages! Visited with my son and parents and we all had a great day. A fascinating collection of artefacts and appliances from years gone by including original machinery and life size reproductions. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and truly interested in the subject which led to great discussions. This was our second visit and we look forward to our third- yes, it's that good!
  • Do you really know how coal gas was made commercially? I certainly did not and now I do. It's only a small museum but it is fascinating. If you can go on a steam day. Seeing the machinery up and running and talking to the operators makes it a fantastic experience.
  • Went on a "steam day" in connection with historic scotland. Can't honestly say it was on my list of places to visit but my other half works for a large energy supplier and thought he would find it interesting. How wrong i was - i loved every minute of the two hours we were there, definitely a must see just for the gas powered fridge and the 1920ish prepayment meter. The staff were extremely friendly and no question went unanswered, will definately be returning for another visit.
  • Really interesting place to visit, steam days are great as you get to see a lot of the equipment in action. The smells still linger from when the Gasworks were in operation too! Highly recommended
