  • Most of the reviews on here are incorrect and should be ignored. The clues are any references to busy high streets, lots of shops and cafes etc. Such reviews clearly refer to the small town of Castle....  more

  • If you’re a Douglas, like me, it’s a must see. Beautiful surroundings along a half-mile walk through fields and woods around a lake with swans to see a single ruin of a tower which is all that’s left of the castle.
  • Only a tower remains to be seen it’s set in a lovely park area worth a walk round with the dogs Beautiful scenery. Again if your local or just passing by worth coming to have a look
  • Wonderful parkland and views, love the tower from the 14th century castle, amazing insight into how they built them.
  • Great site, well worth visiting. Only one tower remaining from the original castle here as the later, grander scaled castle was demolished in 1938 following severe subsidence due to underground coal mining. The Castle Policies are also well worth a wander round as they are relatively well kept and give an impression of the scale of the original castle estate. The memorials to the Cameronion Regiment and the Polish Army are also worth seeking out. Would highly recommend this place.
  • Once the seat of the noble Scottish Douglas family, All that’s left of the penultimate castle is a single corner tower. There's a 10-15 minute walk to the site of the castle which is quite pleasant as it takes you through farmland (and sheep do do), lakes and woodlands. There’s not much to see unless you have an interest in Scottish history, there's not even any interpretation or information on site. Just give this a miss unless you have plenty of time.
