Dunvegan Castle & Gardens
As the home of the MacLeod clan for more than 800 years, Dunvegan Castle & Gardens stands as the longest-inhabited castle in Scotland. Perched on a rocky outcrop along Loch Dunvegan, the castle features both a large collection of art and colorful gardens. Take a tour to see oil paintings and artifacts such as the famous Fairy Flag banner inside, and diverse plants, wooded glades, and waterfall-fed pools in the 2 hectares (5 acres) of formal gardens outside. Venture onto the loch aboard a boat to see the local seal colony or to cast a line for fish. Nearby campgrounds and cottages offer accommodation if you wish to extend your stay in the area. Put Dunvegan Castle & Gardens and other Isle of Skye attractions into our Isle of Skye trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

A beautiful castle and a great stop to do some historical sightseeing. The grounds are lovely for a walk and the castle is spectacular. A great stop for Scottish history if you're on holiday there!

My group really enjoyed touring Dunvegan Castle, such a beautiful location and a great historic site. The gardens were truly impressive, we just walked and walked through acres of fabulous trees...

It's a fabulous location for the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland. There are plenty of interesting things to look at in the interior and the gardens were a real surprise, and much more extensive and formal than we were inspecting. There's a spacious cafe too. Definitely worth a visit.

As a MacLeod, I have been very eager to visit the Clan home :) Currently, the gardens are only open. This is still a beautiful decent day out. If you are into flowers and gardening, you'll love it. The castle itself is under going some work,so it was shut. There is plenty to see and walk about. Kids will love it unless you have a miserable pre-teen.. if you do, leave them in the car.

A can’t miss if you are on the Isle of Skye. Dunvegan Castle and it’s surrounding gardens are beautiful. Dunvegan is one of the nicest castles I have ever been to. It isn’t stark, and it isn’t gaudy. It’s hard not to appreciate how much time and effort went into everything here. From the construction, the furniture, finish work, garden, etc. This properties upkeep must be an incredible undertaking. I have a large appreciation for fine woodworking and finish carpentry. There is certainly no shortage of impressive craftsmanship here. The gardens don’t disappoint either. Definitely worth checking out if time and weather permits for you. You probably want to give yourself at least 3 hours if you plan to see it all. We visited on a Sunday afternoon. I’m sure that helped with cutting down on some of the crowd. Parking was easy, and we even grabbed a quick bite at the cafe before heading in. I was appreciative of that being there.

A nice castle, good activity when it rains outside. The gardens doesn’t look really maintained so I would recommend to focus on the castle itself. From the outside the castle doesn’t look as nice as other Scottish castles, but the inside of the castle is beautiful and interesting, showing nice exhibitions of the lives and legacy of the McLeod chiefs

The castle is quite historically interesting and full of well preserved furniture, books and paintings. The gardens, however, are worth the visit alone. We spent almost as much time in the gardens as the castle, and it was raining! The surrounding countryside is also picturesque. Worth a visit.
