Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boatlift in Scotland, connecting the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. This engineering phenomenon attracts over 400,000 tourists every year to its visitor's center. Take a boat ride on the lift and into the canal to experience the ingenious mechanism. A boat departs from the harbor every hour, so you'll have frequent opportunities throughout the day to tour the canal and admire the lift's operation. The channel connects Glasgow with Edinburgh, so consider using it as your means of transport when touring these two great cities. • This was brilliant, much better than expected, loads of good clear info and beautiful views! There’s a pathway that you can walk under the tunnel once you’re finished on the boat too. Plenty to keep the kids amused and the adults. Nice little cafe and gift shop, and for those with a sweet tooth, an ice cream stand too! They run 2 boats, perfect for wet weather too as the boats are covered. Highly recommended and lovely walks nearby along the canal paths.
  • Had been really looking forward to seeing this wheel in action & it didn't disappoint. A great engineering marvel. Can take a boat ride & experience the wheel in action. It's situated in a very nice area with a lovely walk around the area with plenty of seating to take in the views. A lovely gift shop & cafe. Can walk along the canal a few miles to reach the Kelpies.
  • Amazing! The technology and engineering that have gone into this design are awesome. Didn’t have time to book the boat tour, but did get to watch the wheel in operation. The whole process takes about 15-20 minutes. Just incredible to watch. The area has loads of parking. The complex is spotless with a lovely curio and coffee shop. There is loads of information on the history and design. Was one of the highlights of our trip. Would love to do the canal trip next time.
  • What a place... An amazing feat of engineering and has to be seen really. Lots of parking, you pay on the way out and lots of information in a very beautiful glass building We were passing through so didn't book the boat trip, but loved watching the whole process. We did eat in the restaurant, well coffee and cake and it was delicious, in fact all the food looked lovely. Everything is in the one building, which is great and it's been build with this glass sloping roof so that when you sit inside you can see the wheel at work. I also walked to the top to see the boat come out onto the top canal, it was fab, loved our visit here quite amazing piece of canal history
  • Fantastic engineering, the world's first and only rotating boat lift. Seeing it in action was superb and going on it was even better! Great views from the top, you can even see The Kelpies! Commentary and information given whilst on the canal boat was really good and informative. Lovely walking trails along the canal. Plenty of things for children to do, including a lovely play park. Great cafe, gift shop and toilets. Would highly recommend a visit!
