The second deepest lake in Scotland, Loch Ness is best known for alleged sightings of the mysterious Loch Ness Monster, affectionately called Nessie. This large freshwater lake extends for about 37 km (23 mi) southwest of Inverness, forming an important part of a series of interconnected and very murky bodies of water. The natural murkiness, created by the high peat content in the surrounding soil, contributes to the legend of Nessie and attracts thousands of visitors each year. Several operators offer boat tours around the lake, providing curious tourists with a chance to search for the famous monster. Don’t miss a visit to the nearby Loch Ness Center and Exhibition, examining the natural history and the myth of the lake’s elusive resident. Had a drive to loch ness. Very disappointed with the area as there wasn't many cafés. I know I'm "out of season" in March but there was still a fair few people about. Money to be made.

Loch Ness is a stunning lake located in Scotland that is famous for the legendary monster that supposedly resides in its depths. The scenery around the lake is breathtaking, with rolling hills, forests and a backdrop of mountains. The lake itself is also very large and peaceful, with crystal clear waters and abundant wildlife. Visiting Loch Ness is a must for anyone interested in history, nature, and mythology. Whether you believe in the monster or not, the mystery and beauty of the lake make for a memorable experience. Overall, a visit to Loch Ness is a must-do for anyone visiting Scotland. Highly recommended!

Amazing mountain terrain with hidden castles as Gems! Also many small island place and glacier peaks at Scotland!

Been waiting to go here now for quite a while and it was worth the wait. There are several large layby's on the roads around the loch for viewing and you get a good view of the loch. We parked at Urquhart Castle and after driving round a couple of times we managed to find a space but parking is limited so bare this in mind when visiting give yourself plenty of time to park even when booked in advance. The castle is stunning and there are lots of information boards around and staff dotted about to answer questions. There is also a very large shop and a decent cafe/restaurant prices were a little on the high side but expected for this type of tourist attraction.

Drove 7 hours to get to Loch Ness...and its fabulous and beautiful....don't actually believe in the monster is here now..(no food supplies) but maybe in the past? Sublime scenery and Boleskine house is well worth a visit...being restored by Keith and his foundation

5point Review Activity Duration : A couple of hours (A whole day if you are driving from Glasgow or Edinburgh) Views from out of this world. What else? Lets dive in. 1. Thumbs up : The views are stunning. I am informed this is the largest lake by water volume. Although it is quite narrow but it is long and we drove around it to see the spectacular scenery. The day we visited it was rainy so the lush green hilltops with low hanging cloud looked straight out of some movie scene. We visited the Dores beach which was well maintained. 2. Thumbs down : The location of Loch Ness on google map took us to the middle of nowhere. It just abruptly ended when we were driving around the lake. No beach or boating or nothing (Google maps, do you hear, You can certainly do better than that). Then we drove around and found this beach which was good, but apart from beach and a small cafe there qas nothing else. Boats, cruises etc are scattered on other side of the lake and are hard to locate if you are self driving. Water was obviously too cold to swim so basically we took a few pics, sat on the beach and then returned. After a 3.5 hours drive from Glasgow we spent less than an hour here and it looked like waste of time because there were hundreds of other things to do in Highlands. 3. Wow factor : The scenery is truly spectacular and the drive up to Inverness is beautiful as well. It is worth it if you are into nature exploration. 4. Money Matters : There is no fees (apart from the fuel charges from where you are driving). So if you are nearby do visit this place. 5. 5point Experience : If you really want to go there do a good research on what activities you will do ( and where to find them) or else you will feel lost. If you are far from this lake give it a miss as Highlands have many more lakes and you will surely find one with more fun near you. And Google please update your location suggestions, ending in middle of nowhere is no fun. My ratings : Worth a visit if nearby or else worth giving it a miss.
