Beautiful home and gardens. The self guided tour was both informative and enjoyable. We were a group of 14 celebrating family birthday and were fortunate to rent the Hope Wing for the weekend. Ages ranged from 12 to 84. Everyone had a great time. Well worth a visit and if you are looking for a special place for a group stay this is both unique and good value

Lovely grounds and house, we went during the Christmas fayre that was on, which was smaller than anticipated but the stall owners were pleasant enough. The house itself has plenty information to listen to and read, and the staff were very knowledgelable, and the grounds (although we never got a full walk around due to ice and snow) looked to be well maintained and a good walk. The cafe was also good and we're very accommodating as there was a large group of us, we only had tea and cake but the meals going out looked great. Worth a visit if your in the area

Scott's house is an impressive building and it has grounds to match, although they were more extensive and more impressive in the past. The gardens, however, don't match up. They are pleasant enough but could be so much better. The large visitor centre has the inevitable gift shop as well as an exhibition on Scott's life. It's also where you will find the cafe serving excellent food with, for example, sausage and mash and black pudding with egg and crispy bacon. With walks through the woods and along the River Tweed you could easily spend a few hours here without getting bored. There is a bit of a playground, but it's not the highlight and there are plans to improve it but it doesn't appear to be a priority.

A warm welcome awaits you. The volunteers are brilliant love telling you about the house. The house itself is stunning inside and out. A hidden gem. Even in autumn the walled garden is beautiful. Well worth a visit.

Excellent place to visit with an audio guide included. Very helpful guides in the house who love answering questions. The café is excellent and the vegan bangers and mash superb. We missed out on the grounds due to the heavy rain but the walks will wait for another day.
