Portree Harbour, Isle of Skye

This harbour with the beautiful houses painted in various colours is just picture perfect. It's not a huge harbour but it makes for a great walk with stunning views around the area. Portree is the capital of Skye & has the most shops on Skye too.

A lovely quiet and picturesque fishing town, with some very good gift shops and eateries. Everything you need for a stay on Skye can be found here.

Very quaint once you find a parking space. House in the harbour are sweet. Loads of coffee shops in town which was nice.

Portree Harbour has masses of potential - the view from a distance is persuasive, but unfortunately it does not stand up to an actual visit. Everywhere you look, from the first approach and all along, there are bins, bins, and more bins. Obviously they are necessary, but they are everywhere, with no attempt at concealment. I have visited Tobermory, with its famous, colourful harbour frontage, and I see no reason why Portree's harbour shouldn't be at least as attractive, but I'm afraid at the moment it looks unkempt and as if the local council don't care.

Great town, lots of tourist shopping, also many restaurants and fast food outlets. I noticed that some food establishments are unable to do a full service due to staff shortages, down side of leaving Europe.
