In 2020, Strathaven Miniature Railway celebrated over seven decades of operating a historic steam miniature railway. Still in use is the original locomotive, which ran in this location for the very first time in 1949. This oldest continuously running miniature railway in the country remains a favorite not only with train enthusiasts, but with families with kids and everyone else wishing to add a bit of old-fashioned fun to their vacation. Weather permitting, trains run generally from Easter to the end of September on the weekends. Located in the award winning Strathaven park 'the wee train' is always a hit with children. Ran by friendly volunteers and at a very reasonable charge per child, highly recommended.

Had a great time visiting the railway with my 5 year old son who is very interested in trains. The volunteers are fantastic. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about explaining how the trains worked with us and showing us other trains in the little engine shed. Highly recommend to those with who love trains!! Couldn't believe it wasn't busier!

This is just absolutely brilliant! Only £1 per person (they even accept card now) The folk who run this are absolutely superb. A brilliant experience for all ages. Such friendly folk and they clearly love their hobby. Thank you.
