York City Church attracts visitors with its flamboyant Gothic architectural features, including the world's biggest medieval stained glass window. The history of the church dates back to the 7th century, but most of the current building is from the 13th and 14th centuries. Do not miss the rose and the great east window or the colorfully painted ceiling at the chapter house. Also look for little mice figurines--carved by Robert Thompson or the mouseman--incorporated into different parts of the church. Dedicated to St. Peter, the cathedral serves as the seat of the Archbishop of York. Not as grand as the Minster but worth a visit. Beautiful place with lots of character and tranquility. A nice place to rest and reflect.
