  • I read that you could buy sleds at the gift shop and was so afraid that my southern kids wouldn’t get there in time to get them. We arrived literally at closing and there were stacks of sleds as tall....  more

  • Beautiful national park. Make sure you stop in the gift shop before you go into the park, and get yourself a sled with the wax. We took our own sleds but we couldn’t get them to go down the hills but it was because of the lack of wax. Great place for taking pictures. Lots of space so you’re not crowded by other visitors. Definitely make sure you don’t wear mesh shoes, I would highly suggest sandals. We ended up taking off our shoes and going barefoot, the sand is soft and warm not hot. Make sure you take sunscreen. We spent probably two hours here exploring the dunes.
  • We had a great time. Some of the signs have started to fade, but others are very clear and informative. The veteran in the visitors office was very helpful. The day we visited (17JUL22) the sunset walking tour was cancelled, but we were able to create our own personal walking tour. Although it was hot, the sand was beautiful and cool. We didn't see any wildlife today, but have seen albino lizards and rabbits in the past. It's a wonderful place to visit with children and families.
  • This is actually one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Definitely stay for sunset, standing on top of the dunes, it feels like you're on a whole new world. The mountains turn pink behind you and the fog over the mountains makes everything look misty and unreal. Tips before you come? Bring sun visors or sunglasses, lots of water, and a good jacket for when it starts to get dark! If you're coming in the winter make sure to bring shoes with you into the dunes, because the sand doesn't just look like snow when you're up there. There is a bathroom in one of the parking areas out in the dunes, I'd recommend parking near it.
  • Make sure to visit the White Sands National Park Visitor Center on your trip to the dunes. I ESPECIALLY recommend going into the theater and watching the short movie (15 minutes) on the history and details of the dunes and the unique eco-system of the dunes. It was amazingly informative, and made my visit so much more worthwhile. Also, make sure to stamp your National park passport in the visitor center. The center also has a gift shop with typical souvenirs. You can also purchase a plastic sled if you want to sled on the dunes. 100% recommend this stop on your trip!
  • Great place to visit the Dunes and landscape are constantly changing g. Only place in the USA like it. Great fun for kids and adults alike remember to bring your disc/disk to slide down the dunes cheaper to bring it rather than to buy on-site. Entrance is slightly more expensive than I think it should be.
