The Emily Dickinson Museum is a historic house museum consisting of two houses: the Dickinson Homestead (also known as Emily Dickinson Home or Emily Dickinson House) and the Evergreens. The Dickinson Homestead was the birthplace and home from 1855 to 1886 of 19th-century American poet Emily Dickinson (1830–1886), whose poems were discovered in her bedroom there after her death. The house next door, called the Evergreens, was built by the poet's father, Edward Dickinson, in 1856 as a wedding present for her brother Austin. Located in Amherst, Massachusetts, the houses are preserved as a single museum and are open to the public on guided tours.Add Emily Dickinson Museum and other attractions to your Amherst trip itinerary using our Amherst trip itinerary builder app.
The Emily Dickinson Home is a US National Historic Landmark, and properties contribute to the Dickinson Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Wonderful tour experience! The Emily Dickinson Museum was the best museum tour experience I have ever had. The museum has organized tour groups where the tour guide walked the group through The Homestead showing us each room and how it affected Emily's life. The tour experience included not only the story of Emily's life, but also how and why Emily wrote poetry the way that she did. The tour was a very fulfilling experience, and the tour guide made it very special.

We had a great trip here and my daughter loved learning about Emily Dickinson from a child’s point of view. I think her childhood visit deeply impacted her worldview even as an adult. We are looking forward to returning! We love how complex and intelligent Dickinson is. Bonus for college students- the museum tour really helped with papers and impressing English professors!

This was my second time here and first since the renovations. Our tour guide was Pete and he was very knowledgeable and accommodating. The museum features so many items - some used from the TV series, movie and some from the actual time period. The scenery was beautiful. If you are in the area- make this a priority.

A very nice experience visiting the home where the famous poet lived. The visit includes a personal tour, and our guide certainly cared a great deal about Emily Dickinson. He recited a lot of her poetry from memory and the visit lasted nearly two hours. The main house in particular is quite nice, as are the gardens.
