Create an itinerary including Basilica of Saint Lawrence
Designed by Spanish architect Rafael Guastavino, Basilica of Saint Lawrence has the largest freestanding elliptical dome in North America, measuring 18 by 25 m (58 by 82 ft). Marvel at the saint statues from Italy and German stained-glass windows. In 1993, the site was granted the status of a Minor Basilica by Pope John Paul II. The surrounding grounds feature a life-size statue of the Virgin Mary. See representations of Mary, Christ, and the apostles elaborately memorialized in stained glass. Visit two chapels with marble reliefs, mosaics, icons, and statues. If you'd like a guided tour, you must reserve your spot at least a week prior. You can schedule a 25-minute tour after mass on weekends, or opt for more in-depth weekday tours that last about 45 minutes. Self-guided tours are also an option--pick up a brochure inside the building. • You must come and visit on Sunday for the 9 AM mass and be sure to stay late to receive the amazing free tour afterwards! It was such a joy and funny to hear our hosts speak about the wonderful things of this church and help us to more appreciate the stained glass, sculptures and architecture. The architect love this place so much he is buried here! We had a wonderful mass with Latin spliced in. The congregation was welcoming. We felt good about giving to this church which is in dire need of repair. Peace, Joshua
  • Gloriously beautiful basilica! As a visitor, I felt welcomed by the parish. Parking was not hard at all. The mass was celebrated with the deacon, priest, and local seminarians. The stained glass and sculptures were a work of art. The mass was enhanced by amazing music from the choir. I highly recommend for your Sunday worship.
  • What a breathtaking Basilica. It's known to have one of the largest free-standing domes in North America. The greeter was especially kind and hands out brochures for those who are visiting. The dome itself is massive, and there are many sculptures, art pieces, and stained glass windows to enjoy. If you can, go for a service so you can get the full experience.
  • Beautiful Architecture can be seen in Basilica of St Lawrence. It was completed in 1909. The Basilica of St. Lawrence is designed by Rafael Gustavino and Richard Sharpe Smith, renowned architects on the Biltmore House. Their updated mass time schedules and visiting hours are available in their website. You can also book a tour with a guide on their website. Make sure to book it atleast a week in advance to get confirmation or approval. Worth to visit!
  • Beautiful place. The interior is smaller than I thought from the outside, but really interesting because it is round with two shrines. The artwork is really wonderful, the lighting is good. The bells sound nice.
