  • Great place to bring the kids to learn about history and runoff some extra energy and it’s free! I return to this beautiful state park at the end of the crystal coast time and time again with my young children and they enjoy it every time. The well kept grassy areas around the top of the Fort and the mysterious arched tunnel ways and large brick rooms are always fun to traverse. The cannons and munitions all around are interesting and fun for the children to climb on and explore. Sunsets at the fort are incredibly beautiful.
  • This was a great stop on a work trip before leaving to head home. Historical places are something I just enjoy and this is a great one. And it's free to explore! Definitely keep an eye on little ones if you have them with you due to no safety rails around the top. Posted a few of the pics from the trip but definitely couldn't post them all. So much history to learn here! Will definitely visit again!
  • This is an awesome historical landmark to explore! It was rainy on the day we visited and we still braved the weather to explore every nook and cranny. The main building has some nice exhibits and staff to answer questions as well as a store. The fort itself also has exhibits and lots to explore! Fun for kids and adults—just supervise children as some of the steps are very steep. If it is wet, and you really want to explore, make sure you have appropriate footwear for puddles and a little bit of mud.
  • This attraction was amazing! The only downside that I saw was that it wasn't handicap accessible as far as getting on top of the fort to be able to see the BEAUTIFUL 360 View that it has to offer☹! My father walks with a cane and it was extremely difficult for him to get up and down the steps I understand the need for preservation completely however so it wasn't a huge letdown because they are preserving it. Also... I wish there was a little more signage above the doors and tunnels that go in and out of the fort instead of on them. It would be MUCH easier to read and to know what areas are restricted!(just future reference throwing that out there) if you love history or even if you don't and you're looking for an amazing attraction with a beautiful view of the ocean this is definitely worth it!
  • This is a beautiful and historic state park. There’s plenty to explore at the fort and many museum displays to check out. There’s also guided tours that give you a lot of information about the history of the fort. Outside of the fort, there’s some hiking trails around the grounds. There is a lot to experience at this fort and it’s all free of charge. I’d totally recommend checking out Fort Macon.
