Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge is only accessible by boat, except for Garris Landing which has a public boat ramp and pier and, the visitor center which is Sewee Visitor & Environmental Education Center. Lighthouse Island has two 1800s historic lighthouse--1827 and 1857. Lighthouse Island is located off shore from the village of McClellanville. The island is one in the northern area of the refuge. Also, people with their own watercraft (motorized boats, kayaks) can access the refuge during daylight hours.     We lucked out because there were 2 rangers there and pointed out some birds we might have missed. Nice dock for photos.

    Completely unspoiled area. Wildlife and waterfowl are abundant....also mosquitoes! You should expect to spend the day and walk your legs off to truly experience it.
