  • The NC Maritime Museum is full of interesting tidbits and artifacts - some historic, some recreations. Did you know that no one truly knows who Blackbeard was? That is what I learned while perusing...

  • One of my favorite museums hands down! The NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC has grown from a small waterfront museum to a maritime research facility. It has a boat building school, tours, and fantastic small marine library. The exhibits are detailed and very well done! Don't forget to stop by the well-stocked gift shop on the way out.
  • What a wonderful museum! So much to take in give yourself a few hours. The museum is relatively small but is packed with great interactive displays! From learning about the North Carolina coastal habitats to Learning the history of Blackbeard this museum is fun for all ages! There’s no charge to visit the museum but they do except donations.
  • The museum was a fantastic addition to our trip to Beaufort, NC. We went both days we were in town. The legendary Blackbeard the pirate is highlighted in the museum explaining the Bigger than life escapades of pirate history. Explore the life of seamen on whale ships and the early history of the sea village of Beaufort. Take a few extra monuments to relax in free library and explore the gift shop. We’ll worth the visit!
  • Another great free museum in NC everyone should check out. Lots of artifacts on display from Blackbeard's ship the Queen Anne's Revenge that sunck not far off the coast. Also on display is a history of the maritime industry in eastern NC. Very informative. All the staff we interacted with were pleasant and helpful. This museum is free however, donations are welcome!
  • Great historical trip back in time to the sea-faring way of life the Outter Banks is known for. AND the amazing recovery of thousands of relics from the Queen Anne's Revenge (Blackbeard's ship). The museum will take some time going through as there is a plethora of stuff to read (maybe have an audio tour with headphones?). The layout is very easy, self guided and literally transports you back with various dioramas, pictographs, story boards, & pictures. The library is dang phenomenal. Truly intetesting. The museum is well maintained, very clean & generally quiet (save some scallywag & her kids running around yelling they found some scavenger hunt items). The lighting will make picture taking daunting (no flash photography), but not impossible. The entire museum is wheelchair accessible, including the bathrooms. A neat addition is the lab area in the back where they clean, inspect, maintain & restore the artifacts (see picture). Highly recommend & give yourself plenty of time to read (if you dig this stuff). P.S. LEAVE A DONATION!!!
