Stopped by here while I’m the area. Worth the short drive from Hagerstown area. Beautiful location, fort was in great shape, lots of peaceful trails to walk.

Tony and I stopped by Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool, MD. We got there at 4pm and the visitors center was already closing. It cost $5 for our vehicle for park entrance fees. We couldn't watch the 10 minute video because they were closing due to no activity. We drove over to the parking lot for the actual fort. The Fort was still open but unmanned so the interior buildings were locked. The Fort was built in 1756 for the Indian wars against the white settlement. It was later used in Revolutionary war and Civil War. It's almost 300 yrs old It's a stone fort with very thick high walls. Definitely a nice park. There is a store but it was closed too. There is a campground down along the Potomac River. Definitely recommend you visit when in the area. I would go back again! A great price!!!

We were here for the annual market Fair. The event is a lot of fun and worth a visit. Lots to do and see. Plenty of artisans making 18th century pieces by hand and it's incredible learning how much life has changed. Highly recommend the Market Fair in April.

We went to Fort Frederick State Park in Maryland this weekend. We always have good luck with state parks, but this one was awesome! Small campground with not alot of amenities, but that was part of the charm. No electric sites, so we used our solar and lithium stations. Very clean site on the Potomac River. Great trails at the park and near by. No dump station either. Very friendly staff. Pet friendly.

Estimated duration 15 minutes to 1 hour. A revolutionary and civil war for reconstructed in the early 1900s by the civilian conservation corps. For is in very good condition and barracks are living history museum. As you enter the park if you turn to the right towards the visitor center there's a large parking lot that is a 5-minute paved trail to the fort. Or you can continue straight headed towards the campground and park in a smaller parking lot right next to the fort Park offers free fly fishing gear rentals at the general store.

Nice historical site next to the Potomac. The Park rangers, in period costumes, can answer your questions about the fort. Park at the office and take the hike or bike to the fort. There are a few picnic tables and a shop near the fort also.
