The North Dakota State Capitol is the house of government of the U.S. state of North Dakota. The Capitol, a 21 story tower, is in Bismarck at 600 East Boulevard Avenue, on a 160acre campus that is the site of many other government buildings. The capitol building and the surrounding office buildings house the state's legislative and judicial branches, as well as many government agencies.
The State Capitol is largely surrounded by state government buildings. The parks, walking trails, and monuments on the grounds give visitors information about the state's history, making it one of the city's tourist attractions. Six buildings exist on the grounds; all built during various time periods as the government grew. Not all state agencies are housed on the grounds, however: a large number are spread throughout the city in various facilities. Plans for a massive expansion and improvement of the grounds were developed in 2000, but very little of the plan has been implemented as of 2012. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Bismarck holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the North Dakota State Capitol Building and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

This is one of the least attractive state capitol buildings we have seen in the United States. As a skyscraper it dominates the Bismarck skyline, but it lacks charm or authority. Boring!

This state capitol might look unassuming outside, but is very interesting inside. The history dramatically affected the design and architecture. I appreciated the simplicity and yet detailed touches for the interior design. The downstairs lobby has an unusual hall of portraits of famous and influential North Dakota residents, rather than the typical government position holder's portraits. The history mentioned with each of the portraits is worth the trip to the capitol. I've had several guided tours and each have been informative. A visit to the top floor is fun to read more history of North Dakota but especially for the views in all directions. I highly recommend visiting the North Dakota state capitol and the guided tour.

Nice areas to walk around. The heritage center is really interesting as well. Lots of history about north Dakota and fun exhibits that everyone will like. Tons of different things in there, worth a stop for sure

They have a great tour of the building! The Art Deco style of the interior is grand. The view from the top is worth the stop.

Different from most State capitol buildings, this skyscraper offers a nice view and a few art deco touches. It's worth a visit, especially since it is free. Don't miss the elevator to the 18th floor. Plan on a half hour.
