Visit Gunnison Natural Park to see the deepest part of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Some spots only get 33 minutes of sunlight a day. The jagged and dramatic cliffs formed millions of years ago when two volcanic islands collided. Take a scenic drive on U.S. Route 50 or 92, which offers views of the canyon walls along the rim. If you're an experienced climber, spend some time on the craggy walls, or watch others tackle the challenge. Hiking to the canyon floor is also an option, but keep in mind that the trails are rough and not maintained. Poison ivy grows along the trails, so long sleeves and tall hiking boots are recommended. • What a gem. For a national park the amount of people visiting was less than i expected, which was great for me. Stunning and breathtaking. But you need to experience it yourself to fully appreciate it. The gunnison trail wilderness permit goes fast and can be reserved the previous day at 330pm. First come first serve. The Warner trail is strenuous. Be prepared for steep grades and loose dirt and rocks. Also trekking poles would help immensely. This is a full day hike or an overnight there and back trail. Lots of upper rim trails that have very little elevation gain. This park is worth the visit.
  • What an amazing place. One of the nicest places to visit in the western portion of Colorado. A definite must see. The vista views are spectacular. Don't believe the yards the signs tell you to walk to see the sight. They are further than what's posted on the signs.
  • Absolutely breathtaking. One of my favorite spots in Colorado for stunning views and peaceful serenity. I would recommend the Warner Point hike if you are up for it. The Echoes are insane from up there, short hike that’s definitely worth the view!
  • Honestly I wasn't expecting much from this national park. I watched many YouTube videos prior to visiting and wasn't very impressed. I figured I would just go in and out just to check it off my list of places visited. Boy was I wrong! The beauty of the place is breathtaking. The youtube videos and photos really don't do it justice. The depth of the landscape, mountains, rivers, cannot be appreciated unless you see it for yourself in person. This was my favorite park we visited on our national park tour (which included Arches NP!). The hikes were strenuous but very walkable. The oak flat loop trail was my favorite. It takes you through so many different terrains all in 1 shot (pine trees, sand, rocky terrain). There is one part of the trail that does require a permit because there is very steep descents and climbing. Overall, there was a great mix of sightseeing and hikes that made this park very enjoyable. Avid hikers might find this park boring due to the lack of hiking trails but I really enjoyed it.
  • This national park may not be as popular as others but it is worth a trip to see. It has many overlook areas with great views with short walking distances. We only toured the south rim, can not speak for the north rim.
