Freak Alley Gallery aka F.A.G is the Northwest's Largest Open-Air, Multi-artist Mural Gallery, located between 8th and 9th street and Bannock and Idaho in Downtown Boise.Plan my day in Boise using traveler tips and tourist information provided by Klarna Trips.
Established in 2002 with the first drawing created by Colby Akers in the back alley door way of Moon's Cafe. From there the Alley has blossomed into a true work of art, with hundreds of participants that create works of art through out the year, from the Annual Mural Project to Sunday Fundays. Without fundraising and donations the Alley would not be what it is today.
With fundraising efforts through the " In the Can" program, Colby recycles cans with the proceeds going directly to fund the alley. Other fundraising efforts have been made through local businesses as well. Due to the amount of donations and fundraising efforts in the community, F.A.G is creating something so much bigger than just the Alley itself.
F.A.G is working to become recognized under the IRS rules and will become a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. Through this corporation we will bring art back into the community and schools with special events, along with provide artists of all styles and mediums a free forum for their work. Hopefully by doing this we are able to help artists launch their careers.
We have an indoor gallery as well. Located at 210 N. 9th St.

When my journey to downtown Boise started early Sunday morning over Memorial Day weekend, I had no idea where my day would lead. Had I guessed, it certainly wouldn’t have been able to dream up Freak Alley Gallery. It was 7am, and I was the only vehicle on the freeway as I headed to get my Bowl of Soul at Java downtown. I chose that location because of its proximity to the Capitol and wanting to explore the grounds with Tank. If Google let iPhones upload video I would show you what a city looks like when everyone collectively decides to leave or stay in. It was as though I had the entire city to myself. After getting some great pictures of Tank at the Capitol, security reminded me I was indeed not alone in the city and that I needed a leash for Tank, for which I obliged. This was also my cue to head out, so when I looked over and saw a building covered in painted flowers, I knew I needed a closer look. Upon further inspection of the beautifully-done mural I turned to my left and spotted Freak Alley Gallery across the street. I originally thought the first murals by the restaurants were the extent of it, because wow, but to my surprise, and true to the name, it is an entire alleyway dedicated to the artwork of locally-commissioned artists. What an absolute treat to be able to spend a drizzly, chilly, morning walking through the minds of such talented individuals. I love places that allow you to go and feel, and Freak Alley Gallery does exactly that. Thank you to the artists and commission for making such a welcoming place. If you are a fan of the arts, or need a spot to get some great photos, do yourself a favor and stop by Freak Alley Gallery in downtown Boise.

Amazing place! I love how the city allowed people to express thier art on an entire city block alley! All the artwork shown here is amazing and totally worth the visit so I highly recommend you visit this amazing place! Parking can definitely be a pain though so I suggest parking close to the Capital building and walking the few blocks to this amazing place filled with the beautiful works from local artists!

Freak Alley is a lovely excursion. We ended up going to it twice. Once in the early morning and then again in the evening when we were waiting for a table at Fork. The alley contains artwork from various artists. All of which are exceptionally talented. Th kids had a great time trying to interact with the artwork. Beware, it can get busy on a Saturday night. So, if you are looking to have space, get great photos without people walking through them, go earlier or on a weekday.

The ever-changing space is known for its impressive street art that features local artists from Boise in Idaho. A VISIT TO DOWNTOWN BOISE is not complete without exploring the Freak Alley Gallery. In 2002, local artist Colby Akers painted the back alley doorway of Moon’s Cafe in downtown Boise, Idaho. When businesses next door saw his work, many were so impressed that they to wanted the artist to paint their buildings. So, it began Freak Alley. Go check it out, take pictures and tag me and let me know which mural you like the most.《 °
