Installed on the Nevada side of Hoover Dam, Winged Figures of the Republic Statues symbolize the growth of a nation, the strength of community and mankind. Guarding the entrance to the dam, the two angel-like sentries are the work of Oskar J.W. Hansen, a Norwegian immigrant and former marine. This example of an Art Deco monument consists of two huge single-cast bronze figures, each 9 m (30 ft) high, and a 43 m (142 ft) tall flagpole between them. Notice a celestial map with a star chart on the terrazzo floor and five bas-reliefs on the elevator tower, depicting benefits of the dam. • There’s construction going on near the sculptures so you can’t get very close. They are on the Nevada side across from the visitor center exit.

  • You'll see this as you explore the dam area. They are majestic and the area surrounding them is interesting to explore and understand. It's far more than statues.

  • Beautiful and majestic. An neat and unexpected part of the Hoover Dam experience. The statues are part of a bigger commemorative monument, and a recorded “guide” provides the backstory.

  • Beautiful and majestic. An neat and unexpected part of the Hoover Dam experience. The statues are part of a bigger commemorative monument, and a recorded “guide” provides the backstory. These are cool art deco statues. If you see the dam without a tour this is a good spot to read about how it was all built. You can take some good pictures too. Overall this is just another part of the whole dam experience.
  • Very majestic and cool. My grandfather helped build Hoover Dam and had some amazing stories about it. It was humbling to stand where he did and to see the amazing feat of engineering and manpower that he and the other men accomplished.
  • They died to make the desert bloom ! Truly amazing how man made cities where there shouldn’t be.
  • Nice place in hoover dam to take pictures and sit a little bit before or after walking the dam itself.
  • These statues mark the entrance to Hoover dam. Very dramatic.
