Genius's work! This man could use any medium. This should be seen. This man in the class of Picasso, Matisse and Grandma Moses, Hindrick Kirchner, think of other great ones. Take the kids.

Wow... who could have known about this art gallery displaying Steffen Thomas’ works from sketches to sculptures. The mosaics are my favorites. The museum hosts traveling shows. Today it was beautiful quilts from the Lake Oconee Quilt guild. Steffen by Piedmont Park in Atlanta and his son donated this farm for the museum. Well worth the short ride south of Madison. Docents were great and spent as much time as you desire. Update 11-2018: Attended the Great Parade of Folk Art tonight with the guest curator Peter Loose. There was also a discussion about collecting folk art and a session where people bought in their works and he discussed/priced. You are missing out if you don’t take the time to explore this hidden jewel!!!!

Excellent array of one man's life in one setting. A non profit and worth the $10 entry fee. Steffen Thomas was a remarkable artist who's craft crossed over into many forms of art such as painting, sculpting, wood, mosaic and metal casting. A lot of Georgia history covered.

Steffen Thomas was a German born immigrant who came to Stone Mountain, GA and proceeded to make art for the rest of his life. The museum is filled with many of his works, ranging from sketches to paintings to woodwork to mosaics to brass and copper welding and even poetry. The museum guide was lovely and helpful, and gave us even more information about Steffen Thomas’ life (like his pet lion!) and even pointed out some nice places to eat around town. We really enjoyed the museum!

We were visiting friends in Madison and heard about this nearby museum and decided to visit. I so enjoy single artist museums when the artist's work is engaging: one learns about the artist's life history, and see the art work in that context. Steffen Thomas's work is impressive, and the spacious museum is worth a short drive through wooded country hills, and an hour viewing his work. A hidden gem.
