Cottonwood Lake, Buena Vista

Parking. Lots of shoreline access. Great for kayaking and paddle boarding. Dogs allowed. Swimming allowed but COLD!! It can get very windy here. And evil fisherman leave their lines and hooks behind... Kept pretty clean, I didn't see any trash, but I did almost step on a hook! 😠

Snowshoed around the lake in fresh snow, it was beautiful and so peaceful. A couple people were out ice fishing. Great experience, can’t wait to explore in a different season. They have a boat ramp for non-motor crafts. I can imagine this is a great spot for fishing/swimming in the summer.

Very picturesque hike. My wife and I went here to snowshoe. If you stay on the road snowshoes aren’t really necessary, but anything off the road or onto the lake is a must. The trek is slightly uphill from the picnic area car park and skirts by the side of the lake. Situated in what seems like a cul-de-sac of mountains you’ll not be short of fantastic view as you hike. Very easy hike with options to make it harder.

Highly recommend for fall colors. Put this in your gps and enjoy a gorgeous drive from Buena Vista. Once there continue to the campground and even into the campground to enjoy lots of fall colors and mountain vistas. We visited last September and it was gorgeous.

We had a great time while Uncle Jerry fished we hiked around the lake. A long journey but fun and beautiful
