  • Very unusual and fun experience. About an hour’s drive from San Diego. Trains inside and outside, some quite rare. Some are also in a state of neglect. Interesting nevertheless. There is a relatively inexpensive train ride that rides along the countryside to about a couple of miles from the border, and then back. Total45 mins. And yes you can see the wall quite clearly. I recommend sitting in the rear car since that way you can actually see out the back door. There is a chance to ride in the locomotive with the engineer as well. Nothing like this for a photo op for the train/history and photography buff! Some spectacular views of the “Wild West”,especially if you go after the rain, when it’s green. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and there on a volunteer basis.
  • Great small museum on the history of the railroad between San Diego and Arizona. The exhibits were great. Many trains and cars in various states of repair. The passenger car and mail cars were my favorite. Also, interesting lesson on the history of African Americans and the rail road. Overall a great quick stop that is definitely worth it.
  • The Campo Railway Museum is pretty cool. Don't have high expectations it's a Museum for a reason. It's fully operated by all volunteer staff. It's a great place to take the kids and just let them run wild.
  • Took a trip back in time today on the Pumpkin Express. It was a cute 45 minute trip towards the boarder and back. The ride was educational as well as it explained certain historical items along the trip. We ended at the depot and were able to go through the museum that they made Halloween themed which included a chance to pick a pumpkin. It was a great day of exploration. HUGE NOTE: Make sure to grab a mask before you go, because we didn't so we had to buy one at the depot in order to board the train.
  • We came for the polar express experience and it was fun. Cold but fun! The seats are small, some of the guests that were larger had a less comfortable ride. They give out a cookie and hot chocolate. Also read a story but unless you are at one end of the car you probably won't be able to see the book. Santa and Mrs Claus did come aboard and mayhem ensued! All in all it was a lot of fun for the kids which is why we do it in the first place.
