  • Schoolhouse of old town named Fruita in Utah. Just by the side of the road, prior to getting to the entrance of the Capitol Reef national park. You can stop there and spot and old school still as if it jas to be class at the next day. Small school surrounded by the river and all the stones. You cab see deers just by the school, as it is a protected area. Enjoyable place highlu recommended
  • one person wrote " If you’ve seen other old schoolhouses there’s no need to stop here" what an idiot! can you imagine first through eighth grade attended all at once, and class sizes varied from eight to 26 students. The building was used for church services, town meetings, box socials and dances when school was out of session. the fruita school closed in 1941 due to the dwindling population of fruita. this was so much more than a one room school. i really wish people knew what they were looking at before they write a review. ELEANOR ROOSEVELT GAVE A RADIO SPEECH FROM THE STEPS OF THE ONE ROOM SCHOOL IN KINDERHOOK NEW YORK, ICAHABOD CRANE SCHOOL. URGING THE NATION TO SAVE AND CHERISH THESE ONE ROOM SCHOOLS. i agree, these so called worthless old buildings help build america and the importance they have in our history needs to be saved and honored.
  • Super cool! You can look inside the house and see what's written on the board and everything. Make sure to check out the rock too. 10-15 minutes.
  • The Old Fruita schoolhouse is a U.S. registered historical site along Highway 24 in the Fruita Valley of Capital Reef National Park. This is one-room building was constructed in 1896 and served as the community school until 1941. Today it remains in its original location and is available to be viewed from the outside by visitors to Capital Reef. There is a small carpark and information sign highlighting the history of the historic Fruita schoolhouse during its period of use. You can easily read the panel and view the historical building in 3-5 minutes, making this convenient stop for those driving through Capital Reef. Note: This schoolhouse is not far from the Fremont Petroglyphs stop. Further, for those who enjoy seeing historic buildings, you may also want to include a stop at the historic Behunin Cabin further east along Highway 24.
  • You can look through the windows but can’t go inside. If you’ve seen other old schoolhouses there’s no need to stop here.
