Create an itinerary including Richard H. Driehaus Museum
Just off Chicago's Magnificent Mile, stained-glass pieces by Louis Comfort Tiffany are featured at Richard H. Driehaus Museum, which is tucked away in the Samuel M. Nickerson House. The museum houses the private collection of Chicago philanthropist, businessman, and art lover Richard H. Driehaus, whose foundation continues to fund many of the city's up-and-coming artists. You can view more than 1,500 pieces of textile, furniture, decor, and sculpture here. The stained glass is all around, installed in the windows and embedded in the architecture to better catch the light. Be sure to look up in the sculpture gallery to see the elaborate dome. Choose from guided or self-guided tours, then rest on the Art Nouveau furniture on the third floor. Visit the website to see if any concerts or lectures are taking place here during your visit. Add Richard H. Driehaus Museum and other attractions to your Chicago trip itinerary using our Chicago trip builder.

  • This tour was fantastic. The furniture, the rooms, the history. The inside of this building is awesome.

  • A very beautiful example from the guild era. The home was originally completed in 1883. It was refurbished and is right downtown. We spent one hour viewing this magnificent home. You wouldn't be disappointed. Even the public bathroom inside the home is true to the period.
  • An incredible experience! We took the guided, highlights tour with Erick and we are so happy we did (as opposed to self guided). All the staff were friendly and enthusiastic, but our guide was exceptional. He was knowledgeable and excited to answer the group’s questions. The house has such an interesting history and some honestly jaw-dropping pieces inside. Tour is about an hour. Discounts available to students.
  • A wonderful place to visit to learn about Chicago architecture. Great customer service. Very nice gift shop (so tempting to go back for a beautiful antique necklace I saw there!) A great place to take guests visiting Chicago to.
  • fantastic gilded age mansion - recommend guided tour. Now featuring a Louis Sullivan/Richard Nickel exhibit. Park at the Row garage two blocks south, you get a $15 parking credit from the museum if you bring the parking garage ticket to show them
  • This place is a gem and a must see museum in Chicago. It explores themes in the architecture of Louis Sullivan and the photography by Richard Nickel that documented the destruction of many of Adler & Sullivan’s most important Chicago buildings. There are many art collections of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Absolutely beautiful!!!
