Took a tour of this beautiful home and enjoyed every minute of it! The staff were great at explaining the history of the home and the people who once lived there. Highly recommend!

This house really is a hidden gem. It is a must see if you are anywhere nearby. It is hard to believe that so much this house has remained intact.

My service dog and I take many walks down at the new development near by. Being new residents have found us exploring. As well as, my children and I go and pick up trash by the lake , in order to help our community be beautiful . We had found a trail that had led us directly behind the plantation. We had been trying to catch it open, since moving here, without luck. I thought it would be great for the kids, dog and I to walk on the perimeter of the property and around the block to where we parked. Not wanting to trespass or disrespect anyone I noticed a vehicle at the side entrance of the house, so told the kids and dog to stay put and I would go and notify them that we were not wanting to come near the house or facilities, but we’re just going to be walking on the outside perimeter of the property towards where we parked our car. I respectfully knocked on the side entrance, and a man opened the door with a warm smile. I told him Our intention and he said he didn’t know and had me follow him to the kitchen where an older, larger man sat eating. Before I could even get my smile out and say ,”hello” he bellowed out with a full mouth of food, “ WHO ARE YOU?! WHY ARE YOU HERE?!” I calmly explained my situation, with a smile, and even offered to put a small donation into the front box, for allowing us to pass through. That we would not come anywhere close to any of the buildings but were hoping to see the grounds at a distance, whilst getting a nice walk. He was very rude and wouldn’t even stop eating to talk. Just told me, “ your dog has to get off this property and you can pay the full price for you and your children, when we are open. You shouldn’t be here, and need to leave!” The other gentleman looked so apologetically at me . He could tell this man’s obnoxious demeanor was upsetting me. I told him I wouldn’t be coming back. Sad thing is ; I had researched the plantation history of Ms. Prestwood whom was quite ahead of her time and a woman that is inspiring. I’m sure she would have fired that , obviously unhappy man. It’s sad , it could be such a boost to the local economy if managed better.

Really enjoyed it. So understand they do have set times for the house tour. You can't see it alone because it is very valuable stuff they have invested a lot of time and money in recovering and you would miss out on a lot of great stuff and information. The outside buildings he explained and we saw on our own. We love to see stuff like this so to see mostly original was amazing. I have the imagination of how and what they did. My husband loves to see the craftsmanship and that sort of thing. I am not from the south so I still get confused on the who is who. Can't beat 10$ and I really wanted to give a tip etc. We had a snooty girl with us. She wanted to do what she wanted to do when she wanted to do it. Please, a little self respect and of rare history, hundreds of years old, so the other 12 of us on the tour could hear and enjoy.

Such a cool place! I've never seen a plantation with so much original furniture and outbuildings in tact! A must see! They need more publicity. The guides are so kind sms very knowledgeable. Tell your friends!

A mansion with a long history(built 1794),belonging to the baron Peyton Skipwith and Lady Jean Skipwith. It's about 300 years old, and it's amazing how well preserved it is. The furniture is made of hardwood and comes from England and maybe France. In order to protect the original furniture and wallpaper color does not fade, so can not take pictures. This is a picture I took from a flyer. They really need more publicity. If you get a chance to see this comment, definitely include it in your itinerary,It's a decision you will never regret. And Then I have to say that what I saw was definitely more impressive than what I saw in the pictures. Personally, I think it could be more luxurious than President Jefferson's Poplar forest.

Im sure it's wonderful, beautiful! But today my husband and I traveled 2 hours to be able to visit. Closed. Checked the web, checked the day. Arrived a little before 2:30pm. Supposed to close at 3:30pm. Closed. Not sure when we'll be traveling that way again.. chained. We couldn't believe it and left extremely disappointed.
