  • This is a very pretty state park. It's located on the Potomac River and there are several hiking trails that end up on one part of the beach or another. The Big Meadow trail is easy and took us...

  • Gorgeous beach with all the cliffs. Very short easy hike to the beach. We brought sifters and found some quality prehistoric shark teeth. The water is clean for swimming too. No bathrooms down there. The campground is awesome. They have a camp store with basics but hardly any food. There’s a general store with some prepared food and a bit of junk food nearby. The campground has bathrooms with showers.
  • Nice park for camping. Camp sites are big enough to fit 2 cars and we booked site with water and power. Restrooms were kept clean throughout the day. There are 2 beaches in the park. Fossil park is a short trail and the other one is big and easily accessible. Loved the stay.
  • Amazing park for tourists and locals alike. There are a mix of easier and somewhat harder trails (more hills) on either side of the main road dividing the park into the two sides. Our dog loves the short walk down to Fossil Beach. We have a Virginia State Park Pass, so come to Westmoreland about once a week and love seeing the different seasons within the park!
  • Nice state park and well kept. Reasonable cabin prices. Clear directions. Bring a flashlight or headlamp if arriving at night. Full kitchen, living room , 2 bedrooms (1 queen , other bunk beds) , and two porches (one on the side and open, one in the back screened in) . It was tight sharing the one bathroom in the morning (3 people). Plenty Of furniture . Fireplace was in non working order at the time . Overall charming cabin . I walked down along the outside of the other cabins ‘backyards’ to obtain a better view. I’m not afraid of spiders , but some were on the rather large & bulky side. 100% family friendly. My days were rather rainy so it was more on the quiet side. Nice trails to walk . Fossil beach was loaded with jellyfish . By the time I got down at 10am large groups of people where on there way out . Stayed around for awhile & still didn’t recover a single fossil . Few people even digging illegally in the cliffs stating “I’m sure everyone digs in the cliffs when no one’s watching” . I had a few not so encouraging words with those fellows . But walk up & down to the beach was cool. Not much wildlife seen. Easy-moderate hike back up to the parking & cabins . Plenty of parking areas to fish . Pier to walk down & boat launch . Never checked out the primitive camping sites. RV’s looked comfortable .
  • A very nice state park located on the Northern Neck of Virginia. It sits right next to the Lee Family home of Stratford Hall. It is pretty old and healthy forest, which is exceedingly rare these days, especially so close to DC, which is about an hour and change north (without traffic). The goal of my trip was to visit Fossil Beach, aptly named, and the cliffs that surround it were quite nice. $7 for cars on weekdays, $10 weekends, worth a visit, cheers.
