Located in Columbus, Georgia, the National Civil War Naval Museum overlooks the Chattahoochee River. We house the largest surviving Confederate warship, the CSS Jackson, as well as the the wreckage of the CSS Chattahoochee. Other exhibits include a full scale ship replica of the USS Water Witch, a replica of the USS Hartford with its berth deck, ward room and captain’s cabin, an actual cutter or "ship's boat" from the USS Hartford, a full scale replica of the USS Monitor’s famous turret, and an emmersive panoramic dockside exhibit recreating Plymouth, North Carolina, complete with an exterior and interior view of the CSS Albermarle.
Among our many artifacts, we have the largest collection of Civil War Naval-related flags on display in the country. The collection includes various flags from ships and coastal forts, signal flags and Admirals’ pennants.
Our timeline exhibit takes you month by month through the war showing naval events and features many of the museum’s most rare artifacts, such as the uniform coat of Captain Catesby Jones and Admiral Farragut’s two-star hat insignia.
Exquisitely detailed Models of many famous Civil War ships are on the timeline including the CSS David, CSS Albemarle and the CSS Atlanta, which is located just opposite the huge 25-foot wide flag that was flying over the ship the day it was captured.
We host a range of events throughout the year with an emphasis on museum theatre and historic character interpretation. Additionally, there are living history events, tours, cannon firings, weapons demonstrations, local history projects and more.

A great lesson on our history. I learned a lot about the war, the Navy, and how the different ships were used for military and trade commerce use. My father is a history buff and a Navy veteran. We...

Very interesting, really absorbed much information about this time in our history. Seeing howcthe sailors live, and what they had to do was a real eye opener. Thankyou.

I’ve been wanting to go to this museum for years but sadly waited long enough for the ship to be torn down! It was a lovely experience for someone looking to get out for a couple hours! It’s not too big and not too small! It’s perfect for a family outing and the staff was great! It’s also priced reasonably at $8 for adults and you get what you pay for 😎
Visited 12/28/2021 The man at the front desk was very knowledgeable on the ships displayed as well as other ships that they are attempting to locate and raise out of the ocean. The CSS Jackson is a much larger ship than it appears in the pictures, even with a portion of the middle missing. You can see the giant spikes holding the ship together, as well as the damage from the battles it was in. There are several cannons on display, and a plethora of other diagrams and informative plaques throughout the museum giving you information on the ships, artillery, crews and their quarters. Absolutely would recommend for a [Naval] history lover
Hello Peoples, Was totally well worth it, Thank U for allowing me to get my Big Truck & Trailer in your Museum. Not to many places for us Truckers to get in and see the sights. If it wasn't for parking, I would have stayed longer, & yes I will come back. When I get the chance, and again. Thank U...loved it..
This place is simply awesome. We stopped because it gave us a break on our drive to Atlanta, and I was blown away with what they’ve got for such a small place that is privately (it is non-government funded) funded. They have a ton of information all around, and some really neat artifacts. I would recommend this place to anyone, and would certainly return if I find myself in the area.
Stopped here and spent 2 hours reading all the material. It is an awesome museum. Lots of relics and pictures. You won’t be disappointed.
