A massive stone carving honoring the Oglala Lakota warrior and hero Crazy HorseCrazy Horse Memorial has the potential to become the world’s largest sculpture at 195 m (641 ft) wide and 172 m (563 ft) high. This memorial was originally commissioned by Chief Henry Standing Bear in 1948 and has yet to be completed. The monument is located in the Black Hills, a land sacred to Lakota culture, only 27 km (17 mi) away from Mount Rushmore. Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski’s widow now oversees the ongoing work and the education of visitors on Native American culture. • Interesting to see the work in progress of the memorial and exhibits in the museum area. I was a bit disappointed to not be able to get up close as I did at Mount Rushmore.

  • I'm so glad we stopped here. The monument itself is impressive in scale, and I was surprised at the extensive museum. You could easily spend several hours here. Lots of parking, clean restrooms, and a restaurant on site. To get into the park you'll pay by the carload. If you'd like to get closer you spend a few dollars per person to take a quick bus ride up closer. Everyone got off the bus so we could take pictures and learn more about the sculpture and sculptor. 30 min total which was worth it. If you want to get really close you'll need to pay over $100 pp and those tours are very limited so check ahead. One thing to note: according to our guide, because of advances in technology, they really are hoping to finish in 5 to 10 years. I'm so glad we got to see this sculpture in process and hope to return upon completion. I'm glad we got to donate toward the project, too. Totally worth a stop!
  • This memorial and cultural teaching center will continue to grow. The history of the driving force to build this monumental sculpture AND construct a educational center and cultural assemblage for the native tribes is very well documented and easy to understand. The views are fantastic! The feelings and goals are alive and well. The goal of completion is still far off but the message is very clear. The minimal costs or $30.00 for 2 people and a car worth supporting this effort. You can even receive a reenter pass good for 3 days to return again.
  • A must see place if you are in south Dakota, would suggest visiting mt Rushmore first and then crazy horse to be able to imagine and understand the scope of this and the time and effort it would take for the Completion i think that is what this Place signifies .. “time” My Second visit after a decade, bit was still amazed. Its a nice Place to know about a lot of native American culture and has a wonderful collection of artifacts.
  • I see some of the reviews complaining about the ticket price……I would not agree, the 30$ per vehicle offers you a well maintained, comprehensive, and even growing museum containing collections of Indian culture / history. For people that are very interested in seeing the collections, you can even stay a full day here. The Crazy Horse Memorial itself is not yet completed, but it’s in the progress. The spirit of making the mountain crave is not about the completion, it’s all about the progress and the craving of history. Please come and visit, usually you will visit the mountain Rushmore first if driving from Rapid city, I recommend spend 1-2 hours for Mt. Rushmore, and giving the rest of your day dedicated to Crazy Horse Memorial.
  • This will be a beautiful memorial. It cost $15/person to drive into the area. To really go see the memorial you have to pay to get in a bus after you have paid to enter the park … with Covid we wouldn’t get on a crowded bus…so we couldn’t see much. The museum is interesting but we have a dog with us so our observations in the museum were limited too. Gift store was very popular. There is a restaurant there.. but we had already eaten. So overall there was not much to be seen other than beautiful sculptures outside. We were glad to pay them money to support the project just wish we could have seen more.
