The Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge is a 15,978 acres (64.66 km2) National Wildlife Refuge located along the eastern coast of Kent County, Delaware, United States, on Delaware Bay. It was established on March 16, 1937, as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory and wintering waterfowl along the Atlantic Flyway. The Refuge was purchased from local land owners with federal duck stamp funds.
Today, the refuge protects wildlife of all kinds, with emphasis on all migratory birds. The refuge also contains the Allee House, a pre-revolutionary war farmhouse on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a stop on Delaware's Coastal Heritage Greenway.

  • Really nice park with great views of nature and wildlife. They’ve done a great job of making this a drive though park so you can see pretty much everything from the road and even get great photos...

  • The Refuge is very well set up with a drive that also has walks and observation towers. Sunset is a good time to visit.

  • Splendid day outing with something for everyone-handicap accessible boardwalks, observation towers - 3 flights , driving loops one way. Plenty of water fowl to spot! Bring bug spray for summer...

  • Birds, birds and more birds. Took a few hours to tour this park. Park has one main road that circles. Has a few walking paths and three observations towers (3 stories.) Happy to see Delaware is protecting wildlife. But, concern that their maintenance is not up to par: some large pot holes, one information sign partially destroyed, broken boardwalk, and one path that is blocked for pedestrians due to fallen tree(s.)
  • Great place for wildlife, especially birding. They have a Visitors Center where you can get maps, ask questions, pay the entry fee, and shop in the giftshop. It's mostly a self driving tour, you can see plenty of wildlife without leaving your car, which is nice if you are there and it's really cold. They also have some walking trails and observation towers.
  • Beautiful refuge with plenty of wildlife to see . Auto and walking trail maps available at refuge headquarters. Great place to take your time and get some bird pictures. Most of freshwater areas frozen over but still lots to see.
  • I definitely have a good time here while birdwatching aside from the killer flies it's a great place to visit
  • Beautiful and relaxing drive. Various entrance spots for trails if you like that sort of thing, but not necessary to enjoy the refuge. A good amount of areas to get out of the car and sit on benches/picnic tables. I guess the flies/insects/bugs were very excited the day that I went, or maybe this is normal for the area. They were all over my car the entire time (windows closed) and I was swatting them away from me whenever I was outside, even with bug spray on. Still worth the visit and I would definitely return, but it was a bit annoying at times when you’re just trying to chill and enjoy the views😄Watch out for turtles crossing! I saw a few of them on the roads🥺 There are restrooms (portapotty) by the entrance. FYI - there is an entrance fee of $4. It is self-serve so only cash/checks that can you put in an envelope and drop into a payment box.
