  • The dirt road for a hour and a half was scary we were worried about getting a flat tire..but all was well. We found some great geodes. We also saw a wild horse and noticed the people there when we were there submitted a review and saw the same horse.
  • 50/50 It is fun experience forsure and you’re guaranteed to find some amazing geodes However, it’s about 80 mile of unpaved dirt road, so unless you got a 4 wheel drive vehicle, patience, and extra gas, you may want to rethink this trip. There are no services and you can easily get lost for days if not weeks so bring extra food & water just in case you get stuck
  • The family headed out for our 2nd geode adventure last Saturday. We rallied at Saratoga Springs a small community close to Provo Utah. The drive into the West Dessert quickly transitioned from asphalt to packed dirt. It follows the historic Pony Express Trail. The drive is beautiful, 2-3 hours each way and a bit rough at times. We turned off too quickly and while we did get there in our 2 wheel drive CRV it was a huge difference as we had to negotiate several washouts, rocky sections the car hit bottom and impassable sections we had to leave the road to drive along side. A 4 wheel drive pickup w/ higher clearance would have been nice. We found the better, more traveled road on the return trip. Much smoother but plenty of wash boards and slow your roll sections. We saw several small campsites with camp trailers and recreational vehicles. The geode fields cover several acres of land. We did all of our digging within a 100 foot section. Bring a good shovel or pic, bucket, gloves, water and sunscreen. NOTE: Their is NO cell phone service and my GPS would not load. No services for fuel or food within at least 2 hours. Some areas are posted No Camping. Our first trip 10 years ago we high centered out Jeep crossing a wash out. We "dug our way" out and continued. Our group ranged in ages from 6 to 60 years and all had a good time discovering at the Dugway Geode Fields
  • Roads in were washed out every 100 yards. Could not make it there without a strong 4x4. Hopefully they fix that soon. Once there, it was a blast finding Geodes. Highly recommended!
  • Great place to find cool rocks. Road is long and pretty rough although probably doable in a 2 wheel drive vehicle as long as it has some clearance. Bring a full size shovel.
