Explore a woodland with lots of historic mining towns, hiking trails, and waterfalls at San Juan National Forest. Venture into the woods for exciting walks and discover hot springs, pretty scenery, and wild trails. The forest offers perfect locations to camp on hot summer days, with plenty of shade and camping grounds with picnic spots. Campground staff members keep an eye out for visitors' safety, as well as keeping the toilet facilities clean. However, the lack of rubbish disposal facilities means that you need to take your trash away with you. Hire a guide and go on the hunt for wild mushrooms in the forest, with several varieties in abundance. Plan my Durango trip by asking Klarna Trips to come up with tips and suggestions.

This was one of our first stops to take in the beauty of Durango. Absolutely breath-taking views. Good roads, well-marked.

Probably the most beautiful pieces of the United States. The roads through the mountains are amazing, well maintained, and a blast to drive on....be careful of wildlife while driving though, because this forest is overflowing with life. The waterfalls are abundant. It feels like every mile of driving, there is another waterfall to check out. We stopped so many times just to check out the scenery that it delayed us to our final destination by multiple hours. 😁 If you are planning on camping, hiking, fishing, sight seeing, relaxing, or skiing....it is all there and it is all top notch. Highly recommend nearly every piece of the San Juan National Forest. Great place.

Adventures galore abound in San Juan National Forest! It covers many diverse acres from high desert to snow capped peaks. Water to fish and explore, I could shoot photos all day long. Well worth every step on the trails. We visit frequently.

Beautiful country I wish some of the Forest roads had more side roads and spots to pull in off the main road to camp. I probably drove 150 miles of Forest Road this week looking for a secluded place to camp. I did see a lot of deer.

Love the San Juan National Forest, so beautiful and so much to do! If you want an adventure see BCO in Pagosa springs for trail rides, fishing and hunting

Wow! What an area! At the end of Vallecito Reservoir beyond the campground is the Trail. It goes along Vallecito Creek and into the Weminuche Wilderness. We hiked the trail to the second bridge (the first bridge being near the campground), a distance of about three miles (six miles roundtrip). We didn't expect it, but the Aspen and other foliage were in full Fall colors. Just amazing. And the valley we hiked up was spectacular. Oh, and the trail. Well . . . it wasn't overly arduous. Not too steep. But rocks EVERYWHERE! Watching, climbing, tripping over, rocks made the hike a bit tedious. But in the end, the beauty of the area is well worth the hike.
