Evergreen Plantation is a plantation located on the west side of the Mississippi River in St. John the Baptist Parish, near Wallace, Louisiana, and along Louisiana Highway 18. The main house was constructed mostly in 1790, and renovated to its current Greek Revival style in 1832. The plantation's historical commodity crop was sugarcane, cultivated by enslaved African Americans until emancipation.

The plantation operated until about 1930, when the Depression resulted in the owners abandoning the house. The plantation continued to produce sugar cane under the direction of the bank that owned it, and it is still a working sugar cane plantation today. The house was extensively restored during the 1940s, with 300,000 bricks from the demolished Uncle Sam Plantation used in the restoration.

Our tour guides were wonderful and informative. It's worth the drive and it's worth it to see. A well rounded tour that gives the visitor the full perspective of the plantation without sugar-coating it. To walk along the path between the oaks that was walked by slaves not so long ago was a rare thing only to be experienced in person. Words cannot express it. It must be seen to feel the true magnitude.

Literally ran across this without knowing!!!! Was headed too the Whitney plantation, and boom saw this. It's right down the street from the Whitney, maybe less than a mile. Couldn't believe it was in the movie Django and Antebellum. Eerie honestly to know slaves were all about in the hot Louisiana sun with the Mississippi River facing the house....I wonder how many attempted running away. Anywho beautiful house.

Wonderfully knowledgeable guides. A piece of American history that you shouldn't miss. Reserve tickets in advance online. The best part of going is that all ticket money goes to restoration and upkeep and after the visit you're considered "Evergreen Plantation Family " and all subsequent tours are free.

We had an incredible trip and our tour guide, Desiree, made the tour truly come alive. She was more of a historian then a tour guide! Learned more about how a plantation ran then we could have in a history book. Glad we took the time and saw the beautiful grounds! Very friendly staff and a toddler friendly tour!

Excellent tour guide! She was very engaging and knowledgeable about the plantation as well as the general history of Louisiana's colonization. Our tour group was relatively small and the grounds were quiet, which made for a pleasant, more intimate experience.
