  • Absolutly amazing how artifacts in closed in such a small town. They have things from the past which most have not seen unless they are from this area.

  • See the life of rural AL on the Gulf Coast. This was not plantations but dirt farmers who cut timber and grew sweet potatoes. Worth the time.

  • I loved it! Very interesting. The farm equipment was amazing! Had to sit down for a second in the church. I need to know more about the potato shed!
  • What a treat! A charming self guided walk back into time. Located on hiway 98 in Foley/ElbertA area of Alabama. Plenty of parking and wheelchair accessible. Friendly staff and donations are accepted and entry is free. Occasionally on the weekends they have blacksmith demonstrations so I recommend calling prior if interested in this activity. Hours are generally liberal like 10-5. Well displayed and quite large. They also have some outdoor structures and sometimes live music. A wedding chapel is also available by reservation. A small gift shop with some hand made items included. If this helps click a helpful and enjoy the journey!
  • For a small town museum, you could not ask for more. There is more than just the main museum depending on the day you go you may encounter the local blacksmith for example. There is an old chapel (available got weddings) as well. Plenty of antiques in there, well organized and displayed. There is a lot of history packed into one small space. There is also a video you can sit and watch. The staff there is friendly and informative. Please bring some cash to leave a donation. There is also a gift shop with books, pictures, etc. Closes at 3pm. Say hi to Galaxy while you are there (the local cat 😺).
  • This museum is larger than I expected with a wide variety of collections ranging from farm, housewares to marine and military. They even have an outside display.
  • Well the two cats were certainly friendly and made the visit memorable. But all the rusting or broken down implements and agricultural detritus was akin to a hoarders dump. Alabama has a cottage industry on displaying “heritage” or “historical” things in the hopes others don’t see it as the junk it really is. A true historical society, not in name only, would preserve items for future generations to enjoy instead of exposing them to the elements and allowing them to rust/rot/disintegrate until there’s nothing left. In Alabama, if it’s not the Crimson Tide or segregation, they don’t wanna preserve it.
