Create an itinerary including Gumbo Limbo Trail
Find solace from the Florida sun on Gumbo Limbo Trail, a pleasant loop hike through tropical woodlands. Along the way, you can admire lush vegetation of the Everglades, from royal palms and ferns, to the eponymous gumbo limbo tree, nicknamed the "Tourist Tree" for its peeling, reddish bark, reminiscent of a sunburnt tourist. Only 0.6 km (0.4 mi) long and paved, the trek is suitable for children and the elderly. The luscious plant life that surrounds the trail attracts insects, so don't forget mosquito repellent. • An enjoyable short walk through a unique jungle. It’s worth a visit after walking the Anhinga Trail. There is so much to see.

  • Short but very cool trail. I was able to see a lot of wildlife and get some pretty good pictures. Consider liking my review and pictures and follow along on all my adventures. Get Your Adventure On!
  • A very short paved loop trail that takes you into a dense canopy of assorted tropical plants that are native to S. Florida, most notably the Gumbo Limbo tree aka Tourist tree (for its peeling burnt bark appearance, I see you Floridians and your humor). I went on a windy, partly cloudy, Wednesday on Feb 2nd with a temperature of 24C/76F, there were ZERO bugs. If you are looking for some solitude and soaking in nature come here a little on the earlier side, folks seem to show up here a little later 1030 and on (ie school buses and large tours of elderly). Allow yourself to stop and read the metal placards, they are really insightful. Ps: the Ahinga Trail is on the same park so you might as well enjoy that too, a 2 for 1 deal!
  • Totally different than the other trail at Royal Palms Visitor Center. This boardwalk cuts through a "tree island" with tree canopy. Not likely to see any gators on this trail. But is a beautiful little pond about 3/4 of the way around the trail. Easy hike, mostly boardwalk. Handicap accessible. Inside the Everglades National Park at Royal Palms Visitor Center.
  • Dense trees. Nice little hike. No wildlife. Not even a bird. Darn👎🏼
  • This is a great short hike through some really lush woodlands. It’s a bit worn down but definitely worth the hike.
