The 17.2 km (10.7 mi) Shining Sea Bikeway is named after a phrase in the song "America the Beautiful" as portions of it hug the ocean. The trail runs on an abandoned railroad path near woods and coastline scenery, past lakes, marshes, and quaint houses. Originally established in 1975, the bikeway has been improved, extended, and paved throughout its entire length. The path is suitable even for beginners or a casual cyclists, as it's mostly level with only a slight occasional grade. On your ride, you'll see cranberry bogs and typical Cape Cod plant life. Stop and have a picnic on the beach, or snap photos of birds at the salt pond. The path can get busy; be sure to respect bicycle rules and watch for inline skaters and runners as well. • Great biking experience, even though there are so many areas that need repairs from roots growing up through the path. The best area for me was from #7 stop on the map going from center of town down.....  more

  • Perfect for families! Our 6 year old did great and our 2 year old enjoyed the bike cart. Great views.
  • Flat paved trail with a few different spots to park throughout. Goes through forests and along beaches, ending in the center of Woods Hole.
  • Easy access and a level trail. This is enjoyable for everyone. Gorgeous ! Walk, run or bike it at your speed. Don’t pass this up! You can also bike down to the ferry and head on over to Martha’s Vineyard.
  • Great for bikes and walking along Falmouth beaches. The views! The path goes for over 10 miles. At the Woods Hole end, the ferry, restaurants, sandwich, coffee, and ice cream places make for a fun adventure. Also the Woods Hole Aquarium has touch tanks for kids. The drawbridge goes up on the hour to let the boats in and out of Eel pond. This is a must do for families on vacation near Falmouth. Bring bikes or rent.
  • It's a smoothe and well maintained bike trail. It takes you along the beautiful beaches of Falmouth and your eyes will be served with beautiful sceneries all along. I really enjoyed this path a few times already and I won't need too much convincing to go there again.
