Lime Kiln Point State Park
Lime Kiln Point State Park is a 36-acre Washington state park on the western shore of San Juan Island in the San Juan archipelago. The park is considered one of the best places in the world to view wild orcas from a land-based facility. Due to the unique bathymetric properties of the site, visitors on the shore can be within 20 feet of whales jumping out of the water (breaching and spyhopping). The park was the site of lime kilns beginning in 1860, and one kiln has been restored as a public exhibit.Put Lime Kiln Point State Park into our Friday Harbor day trip planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Friday Harbor.
The park provides opportunities for picnicking, hiking, beachcombing, orca watching, and tours of the still operational Lime Kiln Light. An interpretive center has displays and activities about orcas and the area's former lime kiln industry.
The park is supported in part by the Friends of Lime Kiln. Volunteers and marine naturalists are often onsite to assist and educate visitors.

Good place just to chill. There's a lighthouse, views of ocean, and if you have two days on san juan island, this is best place to tour after an orca whale boat excursion

What a serene and peaceful site! We did not see any orcas, but a bald eagle made an appearance! Very clean, quiet. October is a great time to visit. Hardly anyone at the park!

Really nice park area. We walked along the coast along the forest path. There is a path that is not arduous that you can use to walk to the Whale Watching point. We used the coastal path. At the whale Watching point, we were able to see a pod of orca fins relatively close, probably a few hundred feet from the coast. Awesome experience and would recommend as a place to chill, wait and watch!

From the ferry terminal Lime Kiln is in the other side of the island. If you have a vehicle you need a Discovery Pass but can buy one there for $30. It is a nice walk through a trees path. The path quickly opens up to a beautiful view with seats along the trail. This is a great place for pictures and would be even better to get a photographer to do family photos. We could have stayed here all day long. We didn’t see any whales but the colors were so gorgeous it makes all your photos look professional.

This is a nice little State Park. You have to pay an entry fee unless you have a pass. Easy to do, drop cash in envelope or go in and pay at machine. Interesting light house. Informative boards around, a gift store, and a place to buy snacks. They do have t-shirts if you haven't gotten any yet on your trip to the island.

I was surprised again at the multiple hiking trails if you venture away from the (crowded) main whale watching sites. Dead man's beach was deserted and just a short walk along the water. Definitely go to the actual Lime Kiln. I had lunch here at a picnic table next to the kiln overlooking the water. No one there as opposed to some of the other picnic tables dispersed along the waterfront trail.

Lime Kiln State Park is a beautiful area in Friday Harbor on the San Juan Islands. Beautiful park. Not a long walk from the parking area to the lighthouse. The rugged ocean shoreline below is amazing. We didn't see any orcas when at the lighthouse, but seen there often. Beautiful peaceful area.
