Prehistoric Gardens is a roadside attraction located on Oregon's Highway 101 Coastal Route. Founded in 1955 in Port Orford, the gardens feature 23 life-sized sculptures of dinosaurs set among the lush foliage of the area's temperate rainforest. The gardens are the work of amateur paleontologist E.V. "Ernie" Nelson; the site is run by Nelson's granddaughter.

  • So as we were coming down the MTN on our bikes we decided to stop in and check this place out. It is a cute little walk through the forest with a bunch of different dinosaurs and with signs to talk about them and give you a little educational knowledge. We think it is a great place to stop if you have kids with you.
  • This is the second time we've been here and our son absolutely loves it. It's a nice little place to take your kids and let them run around along the path and see the dinosaurs. If you're passing through, it's a nice place to stop off and let your kids get some energy out.
  • It was a bit over 30$ total for our family (2 adults and one child aged 9) to purchase admission to the prehistoric garden. Its a neat thing to see if you spot it whilst on a trip and just pull over on a whim but to be honest the "prehistoric" garden is no different than seeing native Oregon forest. This is not a good idea if you need ambulatory assistance as the entire route is rock/gravel and at times narrow.Your are told rules once you pay one of which is you can't touch anything! They included leaning and grabbing onto.It isn't something you should plan as a trip to go see save your money and find a forest. The dinosaurs are kind of cool for the kids but it's not helpful they the kids can't touch them which really bums kids out. Regardless of weather I'd recommend heading to seaside Oregon even better if you can stay a few days to relax and check out everything.
  • Visited on a rainy weekday in early March and had the whole place to ourselves. This attraction is small but well kept, and in the rain and solitude, magical. The rain fell through dense forest onto carefully painted dinosaurs and a well maintained path that meandered past ferns and over bubbling creeks. We made imitation dinosaur noises and heard the echos through the trees. My son loved this place so much.
  • This place is absolutely amazing, I would visit frequently if I lived closer to it. The energy in the rainforest is palpable and the sculptures are pretty impressive. There's a nice little lesson along the beginning of the trail about the evolution of plants for anyone who's interested in reading about it and simple statements about each dinosaur along the way. Well worth the $14 admission.
