Bright Angel Trail begins at Grand Canyon Village and descends 1,335 m (4,380 ft) to the canyon floor. You can follow the trail another 3.2 km (2 mi) to the Bright Angel campground and Phantom Ranch. The path is the main trail used by hikers and mules on their journey through the Grand Canyon to the campground. During high season, the trail can be crowded, but adopt a slow pace to enjoy the views on the way down. Wear footgear with sturdy grips and bring plenty of water. You can stock up on supplies at the visitor center at the top of the plateau before heading down to the canyon floor. • A challenging backpack. We did it on our own and camped at the bottom of the canyon near the river. The views!!! One of the best outdoor experiences of a lifetime. On the way up there was a rainbow.....  more

  • I was so surprised with this trail I hiked partly down and back. I so enjoyed it. It was icy going down but the scenic views of the Grand Canyon was breathtaking! I loved every step and I had a great time meeting different people on the trail. Breathing quite heavy on the way back up from the 1 1/2 mile mark, I found it invigorating to accomplish the hike task I had just done. Can't wait to come back and make the hike 5 mile down.
  • Amazing view point and an awesome trail to hike down. One of the world wonders Grand Canyon is best accessed from this trail head. Stunning overhead views, awesome signs showing the geological age of this canyon and lovely trail to hike down. Located right behind the Bright Angel lodge, this trail head has rest rooms, water fountains, vending machines and decent parking spots. Grand Canyon park shuttle station is right next to this trail. Very well laid out walking trails from here takes you all the way up to Hermits rest and also down to Colorado river via Indian gardens.
  • One of my personal favorites! Scenery that’s stunning, challenging but not unrealistic, wildlife, and well maintained. We hiked rim to river and loved it with every step. Slightly crowded towards the top. After the first 3.5mi it tends to thin out. Not for everyone. It took us just under 6hrs to do the full 16miles to the River and back. Bring snacks and plenty of water, also be prepared for drastic temperature changes if you go in the spring. It was low 60s at the River then started snowing at the rim at 32(ish). We brought plenty of clothes and were well prepared. Worth it in my opinion.
  • It's a long trail so be ready for the hike. Going down is super fun, coming up is terrible-I mean you wish you haven't gone down that far . If you plan to go all the way take a nap at the campground mid-way while coming back up. You need lots of strength to come back up so try to come during the daylight to make it easy. Get lots of strength bars and water. There are few toilets along the way not so clean tho.
  • We hiked down to the garden. Started at 7am and reached the bottom at 10 30am. The views were beautiful and colors magnificent! We started back up at 11 and reached the top by 3pm. For context, we were a group of 4, between the ages 26-30 and decently fit but don’t hike this much very often. Hiking back up was hard but doable with lots of little breaks.
