Armstrong Redwood State Reserve, Guerneville

Beautiful quiet trail through the redwoods. This trail is a lovely visit. There are tall, powerful towering trees rich in history and tradition. The park has markers and icons dedicated to explain the history and age of the trees in this forest and even how to understand and appreciate their growth. I took off my shoes and walked barefoot on the soft trails to appreciate the reverence of these earthly giants. Come here if you want to: See beautiful redwoods Want a short, beautiful trail walk Want lovely pictures next to redwood giants Are a family with small, medium or big kids Want to experience the age and history of the redwood forest Have small dogs needing a good walk Are a human longing to connect with nature This may not be for you if: You like to feel lost in the woods... you are not allowed to leave the path which means some trees are out of distance You don't want to feel like a tourist: It was not crowded when we were there but it definitely felt touristy You want a long rigorous hike: the trails here are shorter and easy (My own limitations in this review consist of: I am partial to wild untamed land... and we were not able to explore the depths of this beautiful park).

Lovely place to walk among the new and old growth redwoods. You can bike there from Guerneville in about 15-20 minutes and there is a large section of the park that is bike friendly. Cute visitors station with some taxidermy of local wildlife. There is a lovely picnic area near a seasonal creek that we enjoyed lunch at. Quiet and peaceful place to enjoy the redwoods without having to deal with the tourists at Muir Woods. If you enter the parking lot you have to pay a fee or there is parking outside the gate for free. No cost to enter park.

I'm in love with redwoods! Such powerful, majestic yet gentle giants. We only did the easy nature walk, but it was easy and perfect to see the beautiful trees. Paid parking was limited but we parked for free on the street and just walked a quarter mile to entrance.

If you want to see giant redwood trees without the crowds and craziness of Muir Woods or the other popular redwoods, Armstrong is a great park to visit. There are beautiful trees, good signage, few crowds and easy trails. Although the main trail is not long, there are many miles of hiking trails so you can definitely do a short or a long hike m parking lot is rather small and you can pay at the hut to the right of the park gate.

I never realized trees could be so cool! I was in awe at how regal the redwood trees are, some of which were more then one thousand years old. The park has several informative signs that tell the history of the area. There are a few picnic sections if you want to sit down for food. Parking is limited but you can get lucky if you go deeper into the park. Really fascinating and glad we stopped by!
