One of Haleakala National Park’s most scenic hiking routes, Pipiwai Trail guides you past the thundering Makahiku waterfalls, and all the way up to the 122 m (400 ft) Waimoku Falls. The moderately strenuous hike is 6.4 km (4 mi) roundtrip and has a 244 m (800 ft) elevation change. Surrounded with lush greenery, the trail is well marked and covered with boardwalk in some sections. You will have to cross streams in a couple spots, so take care, especially if the water is moving fast. Remember to bring closed-toe shoes, food, water, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
