Create an itinerary including St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church
St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia occupies a prominent location on the heights above Harpers Ferry. The original church was built in 1833 in a pseudo-Gothic style which it kept through the Civil War, the only church in Harpers Ferry to escape destruction during the war. The church was extensively altered in 1896 in the then-popular Neo-Gothic style to produce the church seen today. The church commands a sweeping vista across the gorge of the Shenandoah River above its confluence with the Potomac River. The street along the side of the church building is part of the Appalachian Trail. A short trail leads from the church to Jefferson Rock. St. Peter's Church is a mission church of St. James in Charles Town. A Mass is offered at the historic church Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

  • No guidance about parking, impossible to get to. We weren't able to attend mass and drove home instead and missed church.

  • Beautiful church that is still active and holds services. Stunning inside! Everything was very well kept. The church is also listed as a historic site. No matter your religion it’s worth going in and seeing this beautiful piece of art!
  • If you're in Harper's Ferry you definitely need to check out this church. The views are stunning and the architecture is simply amazing. What a magical place.
  • This church is such a rare gem. It's been the host to some incredible history, but still maintains a vibrant active church community. To see the full beauty of this place, I recommend coming for Sunday mass. While at mass, the priest congratulated a family on the recent arrival of their newest child.
  • St. Peters is such a lovely historical church located on top of Harpers Ferry, WV.
  • Unfortunately it wasn't open because of the pandemic but it's still stunning from the outside. Also beautiful views to the water. Keep going up the steps to see the ruins of the old church. Worth the hike.
