Concord Point Light is a lighthouse in Havre de Grace, Maryland, overlooking the point where the Susquehanna River flows into the Chesapeake Bay, an area of increasing navigational traffic at the time it was constructed in 1827. It was built by John Donahoo who built many lighthouses in Maryland. It is the northernmost lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay.
Concord Point Light is a 36ft tower that was built in 1827. It is the second oldest tower lighthouse still standing on the Chesapeake Bay. The lighthouse is constructed of Port Deposit granite. The walls are thick at the base and narrow to at the parapet. John Donahoo also built the keeper's house across the street.
The lantern was originally lit with 9 whale oil lamps with 16in tin reflectors. In 1854, a sixth-order Fresnel lens was installed. This was later upgraded to a fifth-order Fresnel lens. The lighthouse was automated in 1920.
Several members of the O'Neill family served as keepers at Concord Point from 1827 to the mid-1900s. There were other keepers not related to the O'Neills who served as well. The first O'Neill, John, defended the town of Havre de Grace by manning a cannon battery on Concord Point during the War of 1812. Local documents describe the lighthouse area as being "seriously blighted" by 1924, and apparently remained that way for many years. The lighthouse was decommissioned by the Coast Guard in 1975 and soon after that the lens was stolen. The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Extensive restoration work began in 1979, the keeper's house has since been restored, and is open to the public as a museum. The lantern room of the tower now has a new Fifth-order Fresnel lens on loan from the coast guard that was installed in 1983. Concord Point Light is currently listed as a private aid to navigation. • Worth the walk up the steps for the view. The last section is a ladder which could be difficult for some.

  • There is nothing about this clean, well-cared for area and town that my family and I do not love. The park is rich in history and beautiful, and the pathway and boardwalk connect it to a beautiful marina. A great, easy stroll through shaded paths and open areas present many opportunities for photographs. Spend some time here. Although the original French pronunciation of the Towns name has long been lost and replaced by something that doesn't quite roll of the tongue, it's rich history and stunning location are still preserved
  • Dog friendly. Beautiful Lighthouse area and park. Has a nice boardwalk with pretty views as well. Parking was easy luckily and quick. Enjoyed a few hours here, sat on bench and watched couple ships pass thru! Calm and relaxing place to hang out. Recommend coming here for sights and history
  • This lighthouse protected vessels from dangerous waters where the Susquehanna River traveled 444 miles to meet the Chesapeake Bay. It was originally lit by 9 whale oil lamps with tin reflectors that could be seen from 8 miles away This spot is where British Forces attacked the city from the sea and destroyed the city of Havre De Grace Maryland during the war of 1812. The lighthouse keeper was one of the heroes in the defense of the City. President Clinton and Vice President Gore gave a speech here in 1995. This place is on the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Very very cool lighthouse. They let you go inside and explore the lighthouse. The area was very well kept and grounds were clean. The museum was free and the gift shop had affordable prices. I highly recommend!
  • We went to Havre de Grace on a Saturday. The lighthouse was lit up at night, and the bay breeze was very peaceful. Not crowded at all either, but definitely couples and families walking around the area and along the promenade. It was lovely!
