Hōlei Sea Arch is a 90-foot (27-meter)-high natural arch located in Hawaii, on the southern coast of the Big Island, south of Kīlauea. This rock formation was born from marine erosion, in which the waves of the Pacific Ocean create this natural bridge of lava cliffs. The arch is made of basalt. It takes its name from the Hōlei Pali, the escarpment located up on the slopes of the volcano.Using our world travel planner, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park attractions like Holei Sea Arch can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
Located in the Ka'ū District of Hawaii County and in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, it is at the end of the Chain of Craters Road, cut short by the lava flows emitted by Puu Oo Crater since 1990. It thus constitutes a tourist attraction of the national park.

We made the drive to the coast so how can you not walk the 1000 feet to see the arch. It was pretty cool and we got some impressive photos.

We went twice in a two week span during the tropical storm, I have a picture from each time showing before and after a huge part of the arch fell off. How lucky, I hope this lasts! Very cool drive..... more

This was the first place we headed when getting to the park. The drive is lovely with fantastic views and lots of stops, however we did the stops on the way back. The sea arch iteself is impressive, especially when you get the waves crashing around it. Beautiful coast line. There is also a nice walk across the lava flows.

The drive to this place is the highlight of visiting and the view at the end is the cherry on the top. The drive includes some of the most breathtaking views I've ever seen, not to mention some of the most fun driving I've ever experienced. One thing I found odd was that the drive unnecessarily ended a hundred yards before the trail to the viewing area. Weird. Anyway 1000x worth the drive. Definitely go.

The sea arch is impressive to sea (ha). It's a short walk down to a viewing area. There's also a patch of planted palm trees further down the path. It gets hot with the sun and the black rocks and pavement.

I'll make this quick and simple so you can continue your adventure ASAP. 🤙🏼 First of all, I'm proud of you exploring out there 🙌🏼 ‼️Very important ‼️- make sure your gas is full before coming here. If you see a gas station on the way, fill your tank. Make sure your phone is fully charged. Bring a power bank if you have one. Bring a jacket ✅ Free but limited parking, but you should be able to find a space right away ✅ This place will make you feel so small. 😁 See for yourself. The Pacific ocean extends as far as human eyes can see. 🤩 It's out of this world. Enjoy! Feel free to follow. 💯 Mahalo! 🤙🏼

Its a long winding road to get here. Was it worth the drive? Yes if you stopped along the way and experienced the many scenic areas. Probably not if you only came for the sea arch.
