The Mid-America Science Museum is located in Hot Springs, Arkansas. It has more than 100 hands-on traveling and permanent exhibits. Many permanent exhibits were built in the early 1980s.

Several of Rowland Emett's "things" (kinetic sculptures) are at the museum, including The Featherstone-Kite Openwork Basketweave Mark Two Gentleman’s Flying Machine, and several that appear in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as inventions of the character Caractacus Potts.

One of the museum's permanent exhibits is the powerful conical Tesla coil, which can produce 1.5 million volts of electricity.

  • We had a rainy day and wanted something to do that wasn't outdoors. Found this with a quick internet search and are thrilled we did. We had a whole lot of fun with all the interesting exhibits...

  • We made a special trip for my nephews birthday and had a blast! We have not been to Mid America since we were in elementary school on a school field trip and it has changed so much in the last 30 years that even the adults had fun. There was plenty to see and it was spaced out enough where multiple people could look at the displays and play with the features at each one. There was plenty of hand sanitizer stations mounted throughout the facility since everything was able to be touched and played with. The dinosaur exhibit was neat. The kids could color a picture of different dinosaurs, name it, and then place it on a special scanner that would then pop it up onto a TV where it walked around the terrain as if in a cartoon. There was also quite a bit outside as far as walking trails, rope bridges, and a massive rope net that was 100 ft off the ground that you could lay on and look at the nature trails below. Definitely a fun place for adults and children. Can't wait to go back!
  • Come over bring the kids & get ready for some fun while you learn a few things. Check out the Tesla show & also the dome theater, and many more things to enjoy. All of it is a hands on experience. You won't be disappointed. Only$12 per adult.
  • We love this museum! It's such an added bonus that we get free admission since we have a membership to the Museum of Discovery. A few highlights of this trip were the new (to us, anyway) dinosaur exhibit, making pet rocks, the giant block area for building, and the water play area. There is plenty to do outside as well, but it was very hot for September so we only went to the treehouse/net area before heading back in. We paid extra to do the dome show, and I was not all that impressed. It's a very small planetarium-type show. If your kids have never been in a planetarium it may be worth it, but otherwise I don't think I'd recommend it. Maybe we'll check it out when a new show starts... If you're in Central Arkansas and have never been to this museum, take your kids! It's worth the trip.
  • Great place to take the family especially if you have kids under 10. Very interactive and informative. If you like dinosaurs they have a great outdoor dino hike through the woods. On a sidewalk but wear good walking shoes as it's up and down several hills.
  • Great fun and "discovery zones" for kids and adults. Both indoor and outdoor so weather adaptable. Dinosaur exhibit leaving soon but I can't wait to see what's next!
